I decided to rent this (PS3) before buying.
Nothing really impressive (I think the graphics are great) - wannabe Fallout 3 w/racing Linear environments (I hate that all interactive objects have a “glow” to them), and missions take you back to previously-cleared areas. I say if they make you go back to the same area you just finished clearing and it’s suddenly repopulated with baddies, at least replenish it with goodies to pick up. Also it seems like all of the baddies have the same voice and they say the same stuff over and over. I noticed some of the sounds are slightly off; the car still doing"screeching" noises after a turn is complete, badguydeath scream after I blew off his head with a shotgun. The music turns intense when you initiate combat and it doesn’t seem to stop until the area is clear(at least you know when you’re safe).
The driving/racing is something new, but the physics seem way off. “How do these bad guys magically appear out of no where?”
It seems like they tried to take bits from different genres and mash them together. Picture a half-assed Fallout 3 style game with a FPS linearness to it with racing tossed in.
Again, I’m only a few hours in, so I might be missing a lot later on. I’m a firm believer that a game should suck me in almost immediately. Hopefully it will pick up, but so far Rage has only made me want to boot up Fallout 3 on my PC
