I pre-ordered it this weekend and I’m anticipating it’s release next month. It LOOKS really good…stunning visuals, and what looks like fun game play. I’m not usually one for FPS type games since I’m, well, old, and my reflexes suck…but this one looks like it will be more than just a twitch shooter. The last time I bought a FPS (not counting FNV, which I don’t really consider as a FPS game) was Borderlands, and I was highly disappointed, so I’m hoping for no repeat.
How in the hell could you be disappointed with Borderlands?
On topic, I really don’t know. There are a lot of games coming out that, I’m sure, will suck my time. I dunno. I just don’t have a lot of faith in the quality of the online offerings of games/releases that aren’t AAA titles.
Huh? What made it so poor port? The fact the menus weren’t good to use with a mouse? That sort of stuff is so low on my list of minor irritations that they hardly show at all.
On topic, if the game is as good as the pre-launch hype wants me to believe, I’ll buy it at some point for sure. Depending how bored I am when it launches and what kind of reviews it gets, I might pay the full price for it … but I tend to prefer to wait for the inevitable sales. 50e is a lot of money for me.
The mid 90s, possibly. It’s apparently garnered some kind of hype, but I really don’t know anything about it.
Read: I know nothing about its multiplayer offerings.
If you weren’t that impressed by Borderlands, I can’t imagine why you’d want to play Rage. They seem to be nearly identical in terms of gameplay and setting.
They don’t look even remotely similar to me. The story in Rage LOOKS much deeper and more interesting. The graphics seem more realistic and less cartoonish. I guess I’ll have to see about the game play.
Sorry if I hit a nerve with some of you on Borderlands…I really WANTED to like it. But, well, I just didn’t. It happens.
I’m generally a dick about games and even I liked it. Also, I agree. I don’t see any similarities at all to the two games. One’s on an alien planet, and the other is a take on Blade Runner? I’m not sure.
ATM, I can’t even figure out what Rage is. They can’t or won’t discuss what separates it from any other FPS. Is this open-world? How open is it? Is it a hybrid action/RPG? How so? Is the story pretty much go-through-the-corridor regardless of the player’s actions or open-ness of the world? Thus far, nobody seems to be able to tell me anything about it.
Me! Looks like Fallout with the sheen of humor removed. I love Fallout but I think a different take on that genre will be fun. Hope it is more RPG than an action game but we will see.
Well, figured I’d bump this even though there doesn’t seem much interest, since the game shipped today. Basically it doesn’t work, for me at least. It crashes almost immediately on launch…I never even get into a settings screen or initial splash screen. I tried loading updated ATI drivers on my computer but that doesn’t seem to have done anything. I read a suggestion to ‘verify my Steam cache’ but I have no idea where that is…doesn’t seem to be in Steam settings anyway. I’m pretty disappointed, as I was hoping to at least play through a bit of the game before I go out on the road again tonight, but doesn’t look like that’s in the cards.
From what I’ve seen from the yogscast on youtube it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a solid title on the pc.
Graphical issues, performance drivers not up to the task. Fragging seems to be very high paced, enemies need alot of dmg to go down(one headshot is not enough).
Apparently you can blame ATI for that- they released drivers which don’t work with Rage. According to ATI, you can use the Battlefield 3 drivers.
Of course, even on NVidia, the game doesn’t run all that well. There’s no way to set vsync, so I get massive tearing whenever I turn. You can also see textures pop in and out constantly, which can be fairly distracting.
I just did the first mission yesterday, and so far it’s completely linear. I must admit that I’m not seeing what the big deal is.
