Well, are they? I have a crap load of salvage
I love it so far: the atmosphere, the new powers and costumes…I just wish there was more than what I’ve seen so far. If nothing else they need another starting place besides Darwin just to cut down on the terrible lag. Also, I’ve yet to see that my origen makes any diffirence.
All that bitching aside…I CANNOT rob enough banks. Reach for the sky, coppers!
Played it during the beta test. Was sufficiently dissapointed with it not to upgrade my account when it opened commercially. In fact, I’ll probably be not renewing my CoH account when my current paid for perior runs out either.
Playing it, and (for the most part) enjoying it. My wife and I are currently playing Ping and Pong, two Energy/Kinetics Corrupters. I’ve also got a ton of alts- with my second favorite being Scourge, an Ice/Dark Corrupter. I’ve tried playing a Mastermind, but I don’t like the way a lot of their abilities work- primarily, I hate having to resummon everything whenever I zone- that’s a lot of time spent summoning and buffing, and as you get more pets, it just keeps getting worse.
As for PvP… bleh. I particularly despise that invisibility is so necessary, and I can’t believe that the ability to teleport enemies allows you to give them debt (by teleporting them into the drones). If ever there was anything that should be bannable, that’s it.
Sweet! I’d love to play with some Dopers (Even though I am more of a lurker!). I hope you don’t mind if I message you on AIM.
I agree with the banks, it’s great! I hope you don’t mind if I message you on AIM too.
Why? : (
I’m having a love-hate relationship with it at the moment.
I’m loving being a villain, robbing banks and doing my newspaper missions (I’m only low-level, having got it less than a week ago). I’m loving the new power sets and outfits, and the new places to explore. I haven’t gone into the PvP parts yet. I’m a bit chicken about that, but I’m enjoying soloing for now.
I’m less than chuffed about the serious bugs, and the complete and utter lack of support from the staff, however. You get stuck in a mission because of a bug (some of which keep happening over, and over again), and put in a petition and where in CoH there’d be mods/staff there almost immediately, you’re not getting responses back for nearly seven or eight hours. And the responses are “Oh, we know this is a problem(!) and we’re trying to fix it but, um… Deal with it and have a nice day!”. It’s a little less than encouraging, trying to play when the game is randomly resetting your keybinds, or randomly setting mission waypoints on a door that isn’t even openable (or in the middle of the street), or when it’s telling you that you can’t actually go into the mission until your current mission is complete - and the one you’re trying to go into IS the current mission!
The good stuff is great, and will keep me playing. But the bug stuff is annoying as hell, and makes me regret getting the game so soon after release, when they haven’t finished patching it up. So for now I’m going to keep playing.
Massive buggyness, for one thing. You expect that during beta, but it went right into release with many of them unfixed. Relatively limited content - you always start off in the same zone, and every character you make will go through the exact same sequence of contacts and missions up until level 6 or so. Even after you get into the second zone around level 6 or 7 the mission paths available are fairly limited. The bank robbery missions are cool the first dozen or so times you do them. Most of the missions you do are identical to the missions you get in City of Heroes, with the mission text changed so that now you’re attacking villains for evil reasons rather than good ones. I didn’t past the early teens in level, but from what I hear the ‘content’ at the higher levels is mostly PvP, which doesn’t interest me. I’ve been getting burned out and uninterested in CoH anyway, and CoV to me just felt like a cheap slapped-together patch job. The recent nerfs and changes to CoH and the decreased stability of the CoH servers since CoV went live didn’t help.
Go into your mission list, highlight the mission you want, and hit the Set Mission button. Should fix the problem.
It should. But it didn’t. That’s the same answer NCSoft support gave, and it’s the first thing I tried. I only had one mission active at the time, it was set, I un-set it, it still gave the same error, I got another mission, set that one, couldn’t get into that one, re-set the original one and then ended up having to log out and log back in again before it cleared.
What gets me at the moment is that the parts of the game that are “bugging out” for me are all bits that worked fine in CoH (waypoints and mission entrances, for example). What the hell have they done to bork it so badly in the intervening time?
That always fixes it for me. What color does your waypoint turn after you’ve clicked the “Select Mission” button?
As a reminder, Dopers: We have a Villain Group, The Urban Legends, on Protector. It’s semi-themed. By which I mean you can make an Urban Legend[1], but you don’t have to. Send @Maus Magill a /tell, and let me know your Doper Name.
We also have the CECIL global chat channel.
[1] We have The Hook in the Car Door and The Animator - a frozen Walt Disney.
Playing as “The Liche King” on Victory, but I keep getting pulled back into Civ IV.
I love the superbases. I just wish that as a guy in a small SG, I could build rooms more often than once every month.
Hmm…maybe I could be “The Dog Microwaver” or “Guy Who Puts Razor Blades in Apples on Halloween”…though that might be too many letters.
The Dog Microwaver: Some sort of rad corruptor?
Apple Blade Halloween - Just might fit.
I’m enjoying it mostly but some of the bugs are ticking me off - toggle powers and chat channels getting turned off after exiting a mission, fear powers still not working, and the occasionaly massive memory leak caused when exiting the base. Anyway, if you need a villain to assist with your nefarious schemes on Champion, give Persona Non Grata a ring.
Razorblade Apple.
Brainiac4 is “The Suspended Animator” btw. cold/cold, of course.
I have Bonsai Kitty of the same theme.
Gate’s Fortune comes to mind.
Why’d all of you go over to Protector? I’m so lonely in Virtue… sniff
Might make a corrupter on Protector, but I’m not sure yet… found a really really cool SG on virtue, and CoV is giving my lappy fits. Grrr. CoH works fine, though… I think the outdoor maps have WAY too many polys.
Governess Peake, lvl 36, MC/Kin Controller
Camilla Jair, lvl 26, FF/Nrg Defender
Turpin Suppertime, lvl 10, NB/NJ Stalker Virtue
Oh, and my current crop of toons include (all on guardian)
Baron Von Siedel
Dr. Blitzkrieg
Dr. Maestro
Bliztkrieg Bot
Baron Von Blitzkrieg
I wanted to make one called just “The Blitztkrieg Kid” but someone stole that name. So I have an array of other toons with Blitzkrieg in them, but are no where as good as The Blitzkrieg Kid could have been.
Though Baron Von Blitzkrieg does look spiffy in his tophat, and his handlebar mustache.
I play on Virtue still. Old habits.
General Magenta (23 MM)
Mrs. Happy Funtime (6 Brute)
The Demon Weed (2? Dominator)
They put The Urban Legends on Protector so that they could fill their 12 slots on Virtue with heroes for CECIL (Cecil’s Extraordinary Counter-Ignorance League, for those that don’t know), and have 12 villians on Protector.
So far, I’m still just a hero guy. I know that City of Villians has lots of cool stuff, but I’d just feel dirty playing a bad guy. Besides, I’m not spending loads of time in-game, and have only gotten one hero to level 32. There’s a lot of City of Heroes still to explore for me. But next time I’ve got the cash, I may get CoV just so I can use the CECIL base on the CoH side.
I didn’t feel dirty playing a villain until I took a mission where you kidnap victims for the Vahz.
