Anyone playing Outriders?

It’s a loot shooter* set on some far distant planet that humans attempted to colonise only to discover that the planet changed drastically between the initial reports and when they arrived. It is single player with optional co-op (or vice versa depending on your point of view). I’m not a fan of online multiplayer with strangers so I’m doing it solo. Enemies and loot scale appropriately depending on whether you are solo or co-op.

I’ve never been super into looting games. I’ve played Destiny, The Division, and a tiny bit of Diablo 3 and have never quite clicked with any of them. That said, I’m enjoying this one so far. It started out badly with horrible camera shake in the cutscenes and an overly militaristic vibe for my tastes, but it got a lot better after the prologue. I found a setting for turning the camera shake off and once your character becomes “altered” and gets magic-like powers/skills the game play becomes more interesting.

The World Tier system is good. It lets you set the difficulty level whenever you like so if you are struggling with a fight you can set lower a World Tier to make it easier, the flip side being that the loot is not as good.

I’m playing as a Trickster. I like to teleport behind an enemy then one-shot them in the back with a shotgun. Also a useful method for quickly getting to high vantage points. On the other hand I regularly get my arse handed to me by big enemy Captains who send fire tornadoes my way and shoot me with some kind of burning bullet.

It was available via Xbox Game Pass and looked good so I downloaded it. I haven’t actually launched it yet. I’m glad you are enjoying it, that makes me even more eager to try it.

This was a game I marked for later review when it was announced. My wife is fond of looting and I’m partial to shooting so we can easily meet halfway in a game like this. We’ve played a LOT of the Borderlands games, for instance.

I would be curious to know how it generally plays out, if it’s buggy, etc.

Just make sure you give it a chance past the prologue section. Initially I didn’t get beyond that because it just seemed pretty bad. The game comes into its own once it starts properly.

I just want to update that I’ve been playing and really enjoying it. I went Technomancer and it combines many of my favorite things in one class. Long range sniper skills, healing by damaging, controlling the battlefield, and turrets. I love turrets in looter-shooters. I used them a lot in Borderlands 1 and 2, I used them in The Division 1 and 2 (actually turrets made the game for me there) and being able to build around them in this game is awesome.

The story is also cool and I feel like I’m playing through a really good Sci Fi series. The character customization was sadly limited but it was enough that my character feels sort of unique.

This is one of my favorite console games to play right now. I’m so glad it was available on Game Pass.

Are you playing single player or co-op? How do you go against the captains with a long range build? I find some of them move pretty quickly to close any distance I put between us.

Single player. Captains get frozen often so I can usually keep them at least at a medium distance. I do have to do some running and dodging to stay away from them and also enemies that like to charge into melee but having multiple methods to freeze them helps enormously, not to mention the constant healing keeping me alive. From what I can tell as I grow into the Tech Shaman role that will get easier. I’m still pretty low level, just barely past 10.
