Anyone see the U2 tour?

I am going on Saturday so I am looking for reviews from people who already have seen the show. My son wanted to go, this is his first big concert , he is 13. I was able to get good seats near the stage for face value a few days ago.

I’ll be heading down to Pasadena next month to see the show…

I’ll be at FedEx Field tonight. I’ll try to remember to post my thoughts tomorrow.

Yes, at Soldier Field. It was an awesome show! The set is really cool.

Hey, I’ll be there Saturday, too*. WRAL says chance of showers Saturday, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
*If we can find a sitter in time. We have only had like six months to find one :smack:

Saw it last week at Giants Stadium in NJ. Awesome show. Sounds like you have great seats. The stage and set design is really cool, some good lighting effects, and the guys sound terrific. They played a nice mix of old and new, and a few covers.

This article reviews it better than I could, including pictures. It’s NY Times, so free registration required.

Yes, at Wembley Stadium in August. They were superb, and the set is amazing. They played well and seemed to be really enjoying the experience. It was a great, great show. (In our case, not least because the support was Elbow, who were just awesome).

I don’t worry about rain since we are sitting in one of the rows of seats under the upper deck. The downside is we may not be able to see the video screen - that’s less of an issue for me but for my son he will have trouble seeing over other people.

I saw them at Soldier Field. Truthfully, I’m not a huge U2 fan. That said, I was blown away. Really fantastic show, and they put the money to good use. The stage was incredible. You’re in for a good time.

This will probably not be an issue. The screen is HUGE and has a few tricks up its sleeve.

You’ll want to be familiar with some of the new songs: No Line On The Horizon, Magnificent, Breathe, Get On Your Boots, Unknown Caller, I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight (but you might not recognize it at first…) Really, you and your son are in for a treat…

One funny thing about bands that have been around for so long is some fans don’t like (or know ) their newer songs. I don’t care if the song is old or new as long as it’s good. Sometimes when a new song comes on that fans don’t know they head for the bathroom or to get a coke. They could play nothing but hits from the past but I’m sure that is boring for them.

The show last night at FedEx was awesome. We got into the inner circle and were about 20 ft back from the stage with the outer ring 10 ft behind us. This was my third U2 show and my first time with GA tickets and it was a blast! The crowd, even right next to the stage, did seem more subdued than the previous shows I’ve attended (Elevation in Baltimore, Vertigo in Seattle), but maybe that was just the DC crowd? If you’re even remotely interested in U2 I can’t recommend this tour enough.

I saw the second Soldier Field show and it was amazing. The new songs are definitely not as rousing as the earlier stuff (of which there was plenty!), but I get the impression that U2 knows that. They really reinvented “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” (I think that Times article mentions it), and the stage show – video screen, moving stage, all the things the claw can do – is simply incredible. I wish I could go again!

For big events like this there are a large chunk of people who go just to be part of the “in crowd” so it’s possible there may be more of them at some shows.

My wife and I flew up from KC to see the second show at Soldier Field. We had never seen U2 before and were thoroughly impressed. I thought they had a pretty good mix of old and new material and the 360 stage setup with the “Claw” and the video screen was amazing. My only complaint was that we were all the way in the back and at the top of the stadium, so I probably spent more time watching the screen since I could barely make out what was going on onstage. If I had known about the stage setup six months ago when we bought the tickets, I might have tried to get something a little closer behind the stage. (Although we were probably lucky to get what we did.)

It was a great show. That stage is amazing, interesting it takes 4 days to set up for a 3 hour show. Muse was very good too. About half the songs I did not know but they were still good.

Here is an interesting footnote to the show

Sorry, I’m late. I saw them in Ireland and at Soldier Field. They were awesome, and I’m not that big of a U2 fan.

I bought tickets to the left and almost behind the stage in Chicago, but it’s a great spot, because of the way the set is designed.

They had a great crowd in Ireland, home town, and a lot of die hard fans.

It was a very professional and well done show. Seriously contemplating going to AZ, because I’d really like to see the Black Eyed Peas, but I’m coming home from Portland only a couple of days before then.

I wasn’t all that impressed by their show I saw in Dublin at Croke Park. It was interesting as I’d never seen them before but left me feeling a bit cold, the spectacle. They didn’t play any of the U2 songs I like either. All in all, there’s no way I would have forked out for tickets if my girlfriend wasn’t a huge fan of theirs.

What songs didn’t they play that you would have liked to hear? I think it’s gotta be hard for them to come up with a set list (even though they deny that)–the casual fans want to hear Beautiful Day, Pride, One, Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year’s Day, etc. The nutjob fans want to hear obscure songs like Electrical Storm, Your Blue Room, Drowning Man (which they rehearsed but have concluded is too much of a downer for the set list). The band wants to play new stuff to support the new album… And they only have 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get it all done.

Personally, I think the only U2 song that’s sacred in the sense it HAS to be played at every show is Streets. Everything else–even One–is optional.

Thankfully, they seem to have dropped Pride from the set list altogether. As one of the nutjob fans, I’m happy about that…

I like a lot of songs off *Pop/Zooropa/Achtung, Baby/Passengers * but I’ve heard they seldom if ever play them. I was just indicating that I am a fan but I didn’t really enjoy the show all that much. Songs like Stay (Faraway So Close), Discotheque, Miss Sarajevo and the like would have been great to hear.
