Title pretty much says it all. I thought it started out a bit slow, but holy crap! It picked up a head of steam and never let up! I thought Ashley Judd did a really great job. I gave it a 9. It was almost too intense for me.
Anyone else? (I wish I was a better reviewer…maybe someone else can add some color without spoiling it for anyone.)
I saw it at the theater. For the most part I enjoyed it- but I just wish they’d left the “are the bugs real or is it all a delusion” a bit more unclear. I think that would’ve really added to the tension.
It reminded me of that bizarre “string bug” thing that plagues people (I seem to remember someone on the boards who swore they had them).
Anyhoo…I can’t believe you saw it in the theater! I don’t think I could take it on large screen. I was exhausted afterward. And really freaked.
I’ve got it on my Netflix queue. I wasn’t interested until I read Roger Ebert’s review, which indicated that the movie was completely different than the tv ads suggested. I think they had no idea how to market the picture.
I saw it. Hated it. There was so many problems I don’t even know where to begin. This is copied from this thread:
Why did that military doctor smoke crack (or what I assume was crack, could’ve been some other kind of drug)?
Why didn’t he stab Peter with the syringe? Instead he just let himself get knifed.
How could those two, who couldn’t even function, manage to neatly cover their room in tinfoil?
Why was that small, shitty pizza so expensive? And how could she pay for it with a crisp twenty, when twice earlier we see her amass all her funds in the form of a few crinkled one dollar bills, which Jerry then takes!?
Why was Peter at a lesbian bar? Why did Agnes’ friend bring him to her house?
Why did she live at a motel? Where I’m from, you just stay at a motel for a night or two. They don’t usually have a sink and refrigerator either.
A FUCKING RED ONION!?!?
I didn’t like it. I guess I was expecting a scary but decent horror flick (a la the Exorcist). William Freidkin–I can dream, right?
So we went in and there wasn’t any actual horror, but a lot of horrific things happening. I guess I might have enjoyed it if I’d known it was actually about delusional parisitosis, and not about bugs taking over.
I saw it in the theater, as in, the original play which was adapted for the film version.
It was a stunning piece of stagecraft. The claustrophobia of the story, being trapped in the same physical space as these people, would, I think, be significantly reduced in the cinema.
So I didn’t see the movie.
It sucked. Hard. Although, “I AM THE QUEEN MOTHER BUG!” is my new favorite movie line of the year.
