It’s an old movie. Apparently, my dad gonzomax, wants to know how “with-it” you folks are.
I’ve never seen it. All I know about it is that it’s a crazy ass movie and that there’s something about Jesus wearing a zoot suit.

Greasers Palace came out in 1972. The movie starts with a guy parachuting down into the old west in a Zoot suit. He is Christ, He perform miracles but really wants to be a song and dance man in th Palace. The owner of the palce is the town big shot who shoots his son fot thinking he may be gay. Jesus keeps bringing him back. It is a little weird.
The town big shot is horribly constipated and the well being of the town rides on his sucess. Every time he goes into the can a mari achi band appears.
I haven’t seen it, but would love to. It was directed by Robert Downey (a Prince) – before you had to suffix his name with a “Sr.” Downey’s Putney Swope was one of the great forgotten films of the 60s, and I would love to see anything else he did – Pound, too.
My contribution to the “stump the dope with your most obscure reference” thread a few months ago.
Love that movie.
That, kids, is what LSD does to the brain.
"I bring you a message. Exactly six miles north of Skagg Mountain in the Valley of Pain, there lives an evil devil-monster. His name is Bingo Gas Station Motel Cheeseburger With A Side Of Aircraft Noise And You’ll Be Gary Indiana. And he loves to hurt people. The last time I saw Bingo Gas Station Motel Cheeseburger With A Side Of Aircraft Noise And You’ll Be Gary Indiana, he told me what he wants to do. He wants to come down here and kill each and every one of you! But I said to him: “Bingo, wait a minute.” And the reason I said that is because I believe in you people. I believe you can do the job. I believe you can help each other. I believe you can make this world a better place to live in. That’s it. "
Thanks imdb.
It’s a movie from the 1970’s without even the small cult that it had back then. It gets a 5.5 rating (out of 10) with only 224 votes on the IMDb. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t good. Thirty- or forty-year-old movies are re-released or put on DVD for the first time every once in a while without even a reasonably-sized cult audience that’s been waiting for them, and some of them turn out to be mildly popular releases.
Here’s a review I wrote of it for The Scarecrow Video Movie Guide.
