I loved the original so I’m going to try out the remake tomorrow. When I get back, I’ll review it and spoil it, including any changes from the original.
If you’ve seen it, tell me what you think about it.

I haven’t, but I hear it’s almost a scene for scene remake, except with a couple of music scenes added that don’t make sense, and thus some of the character building elements are removed to make room for those.
Of course, that’s all from a review on ThatGuyWithTheGlassec.com. I watch more reviews than movies these days. I only watch movies when I hear they are amazing. And I can find them on Netflix Instant.
If plans go according I’ll be seeing it tonight, following a viewing of a horror movie called The Woman. I hadn’t been interested until the other day when I found out who directed it. Craig Brewer directed Hustle & Flow and one of my favorite movies from recent years, Black Snake Moan. Footloose jumped from ok maybe one of these days maybe to OH MY GOD I HAVE TO SEE THIS!!! just because he’ll bring something interesting to it.
I haven’t seen the original since it was in theaters. I remember liking it, but don’t remember too many specifics. The new one is 73% at Rotten Tomatoes and a quick scanning reveals that many critics seem to be too hung up on the fact that it’s a remake, either because they didn’t like the original either, or they luuurved the original. I’ll watch it on its own merits.
I started following Craig Brewer on Twitter and he’s been a delight. Turns out he’s a HUGE HUGE fan of the original film and wanted to do it justice. He retweets good and bad reviews, and interacts with fans and detractors alike. He seems like a really nice, down-to-earth guy. A recent tweet:
It was enjoyable enough, fun and energetic, though I probably should have watched the movies the other way round. After the incredible The Woman, Footloose was so…“normal” and I kept wanting a feral woman to jump out and kick Aerial and her redneck boyfriend’s asses.
Totally entertaining, and I thought the characters were actually more fleshed out in this homage. Loved that they wore the original prom outfits, her’s looked hilarious after all the buckle bunny wardrobe. When they showed the new Kevin Bacon with his plaid button down and undershirt sleeves rolled up together, my husband said “Wait- when is this set?” Seriously, I never would have seen this until I read the reviews, and if you are a fan of the original, it’s a good way to spend two hours.
The first thing I did when I got out of there was check imdb to see what else the guy who played Willard was in. He is just perfect. Oh and the audience clapped at the end, which I thought was hysterical (cute movie, but not clappable!). There were lots of groups of dressed up women there, apparently the thing to do after church today.
