Okay. So is there a complete lack of creativity in Hollywood or wtf? Yeah the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was entertaining but it really wasn’t necessary IMHO. And now we have sunk to THIS. Give me a break. The original was a passably entertaining Lucille Ball vehicle I remember from when I was a kid, but what possessed them to remake something so dated and moldy? I mean really, what’s next? A remake of Angel In My Pocket? Or better yet The Ghost and Mr. Chicken?
Sheesh. What would be your nominees for movie least deserving to be remade that some schlub will probably remake?
You obviously didn’t read the tag line. Hell, they are going to “ROCK THE HOUSE!” So you know it must be good. I would also expect to see product placement “TO THE EXTREME!”
Yep, Hollywood is almost completely bereft of fresh ideas.
I think we get a few good movies per year now.
I have hopes for Narnia & Wallace & Grommet.
Hitchhikers was pretty good but could’ve been better.
Is Land of the Lost going to played for Humor & Camp or are they playing it straight? I liked the show as a kid, but it was truly cheesy.
Today’s bright concepts are either remakes of old movies or TV shows.
Honeymooners & Dukes were out at the same time. This might be an all time low.
I thought it was out of control when they remade The Sons of Katie Elder (a classic John Wayne/Dean Martin movie) with Marky Mark. John Wayne, 60 years old and lungless could take Mark any day of the week, and thrice on thursday.
I’m thinkin’ Land of the Losthas to be played for camp. Will Ferrell? Really now. I figure something along the lines of the Brady Bunch movies - faithful to the original but verrrrry wink-wink if you know what I mean.
Notice that there are four studio logos on the website. Granted, Nickelodeon Movies is a subdivision of Paramount, and MGM was just purchased by Columbia’s parent company, so technically only two studios were involved, but still…four? That’s a lot.
Then there is War of the Worlds (remake) and Batman Begins (stale rehash).
Each year I’m tempted to go to 3, maybe 4 movies. I go to 2 or 3. Invariably, as I meander down the ad strewn hallways to the theater, and sit through the previews, I’m struck by how unoriginal and stale things seem to be. And every year it just seems to get worse.
It’s almost like they’re only willing to make: video games adapted to a movie, comic books adapted to a movie, remakes of old movies, old shows adapted to movies, or sequels.
The problem isn’t even where they’re drawing their “ideas” from IMO, it’s that they tend to do such an awful job of it.
If I may nitpick a little: **Cheaper by the Dozen ** was based on the book of the same name written by Frank B. Gilbreth & Ernestine Gilbreth Carey and supposedly based on their marriage. It was made into a film in 1950 starring Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy. The recent Steve Martin film was a remake of that.
Yours Mine and Ours is based on the book “Who Gets the Drumstick?” by Helen Eileen Beardsley based on her experience as recounted in the movie.
The 2 stories have certain elements that are similar but they have different source material.
Odd trivia note: Ms Beardsley died on 4/26/2000. Lucille Ball, who protrayed her in the orginal film die on 4/26/1989.
I guess this one pops my cork because it seems like the absolute nadir of creativity.
