I don’t know who’s seen World Idols today, or who even cares, but since there were a fair share of American Idol threads in the past (to which I couldn’t participate because I live in Belgium), I thought I’d give it a try.
Also, I don’t know if the show has already been broadcast in the USA, what with different time zones and all, so here’s a **spoiler alert ** just in case. Now, on to the feature presentation.
How about those judges, eh? Some of them seem to think they’re the stars of the show, and they seem to feel it’s their duty to be as harsh as they can be, except, you know, when the artist is already making a lot of money.
On the other hand, some of them deserved it. What was up with that first contestant (forgotten the country already, sorry)? And Poland? What was she, battery operated?
Being from Belgium, I’ve got to give Peter props for the way he stood up to the judges. The whole “are you sure you belong in this contest?” crap had been done to death in Belgian Idol already, and I would have gotten really sick of it by now too. I can’t objectively estimate his chances, though.
Personally, I’d vote for the “ugly” guy (well, you know, TV-ugly) who did the U2 song. At least the judges were right on this one, there’s no way he would have gotten any sort of contract if it hadn’t been for this show.)
So, any comments? Favourites? Meaningless criticism?
Hello-Ireland calling! I came in half way through. I thought that the first judge on the upper left hand corner, (don’t know where he was from) was a bit of a butt-head. How could anyone find fault with Kelly Clarkson’s (usa) performance?!!! I s’pose I am a bit biased because she is from my hometown of San Antonio, but I thought she was brilliant. My next favorite was the last guy from Norway. I thought he was great. I wanted to punch Simon Cowell for his unnecessary, unhelpful comments on his looks. The Australian judge was very funny though-" If they had a Middle-Earth Idol you would win that". The Norweigian guy seemed to take it on the chin. He had a good attitude and I loved his singing voice. I missed Will Young (U.K.) as nature was calling. What song did he sing?
I also want to add that I just love the two hosts of the show. I don’t know who they are but they’re so cute. I want to invite them over for a slumber party. Who are these guys? They really are precious.
I looked them up. They are Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. I like 'em and yeah, I’d trade Ryan for them. I liked the Belgium guy. It wasn’t my type of music, but I thought he was great.
Why is Simon representing the US? He’s not American. I guess he’s a better selection than Randy (dawg) or Paula.
The hosts are Antony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly - but we in the UK know them as “Ant and Dec”. They started out young working together in a children’s drama programme called “Byker Grove” and have worked together ever since. They are popular presenters and hosted the UK Pop Idol and “I’m a Celebrity get me out of here” and before that the most popular Sat morning show as well as many other shows.
Will was much better tonight than he was when he appeared on American Idol and sang with Kelly. She sang circles around him, but he’s gotten a lot better since then. He also had a noticeable lisp when singing and seems to have gotten rid of it.
Yep, the last contestant was the absolute best. He was awesome and as much as I think Heinz is a hottie, I’ve got to give him (the guy from Norway) the votes.
Yes, the Norway Idol killed on U2’s Beautiful Day, but wow…couldn’t they at least have fixed his teeth? Excellent voice, killer control, just a wonderful performance.
Short Guy Peter was incredible. Loved his return comments on the accusations of selling out, and his song selection was perfect for his voice. When he was performing, all the men in the house who were refusing to watch ‘that stupid chick show’ meandered in to see who that was. He totally nailed that performance and I hope he wins.
Will from the UK is cute, and probably has a good pop voice, but wth was he doing to that Doors song?!
I love Kelly, but she blew it tonight. Way oversang, on an Aretha hit no less! Whichever judge bashed her for “shouting with tone” was right on, seemed like most of the other judges were commenting on her past performances/sales/persona more than the song she murdered on this show. She couldn’t hold still for more than a sixteenth note, has she recently taken up smoking crack?
I’m torn between Norway and Belgium, it’s gotta be one of those two, but it’ll really suck if Kelly wins it.
Huh, if I’d heard either of those versions, then it probably wouldn’t have sounded so weird to me. Well, I guess it’s better Will’s not the only one, but still sounded shockingly wrong to me.
So, looks like the total here is Norway? Think we’ll be predictive of the real vote? And since I missed the beginning of the show, where presumably it was discussed, what does the World Idol winner win?
