Anyone shopped at 15DollarStore.com?

I need to buy a formal/cocktail dress for an award dinner last week, which I just found out I was required to attend yesterday. I don’t think I’ll have time to go shopping for a dress the next town over, and nothing in town (Wal-Mart and a grocery store – I cannot wear a lettuce leaf number to this dinner) offers anything acceptable.

In my search for a dress, I stumbled across 15DollarStore.com, where all the clothing is $15 or less. Has anybody heard of it? Is it reputable? You really can’t beat the prices. Even with the $17 rush delivery, it’s still within my budget of $35.

Can anybody suggest any alternatives for me? I’m a US 12-14, and I’m just looking for something appropriate for a cocktail party in black or any colors but white or dark purple.

Did you check ebay? I just looked and if you type in dress size 12 (or 14) they have lots of dresses and several buy it now.

There are some here

I’ve heard good things about Bluefly.

The thing that worries me about buying off eBay is that it will take too long to get to me.

I didn’t even think to check out Coldwater Creek, because my mom shops there. Shame on me.

BlueFly looks very helpful. I’ve already checked out Overstock.com, Target, and Newport News.

Looks to be a fairly new site – e.g., nothing in their FAQ section yet.

They’re not purporting to sell $200 designer dresses for $15. A $40 dress for $15 is the kind of bargain you might find on the clearance racks at TJ Maxx or the like. So their prices for the kind of merchandise they have seem reasonable.

The only concern I would have is that everything seems to be sized small, medium, large, but I couldn’t find anywhere that gives measurements to go with the sizes. Since they are pushing brands, maybe they assume you know how sizes run in a particular brand, but I sure as heck don’t.

Personally, I think a dress constructed of spray-painted lettuce leaves – perhaps held together with duct tape, making Wal-Mart your one-stop-shop for dressmaking materials – could make quite a statement. And I’m sure you could whip up a lovely knitted evening wrap to go with it.

I looked at the $15 website and, frankly, its wares looked cheap and depressing. Have you tried Coldwatercreek.com ? They’ve got a good sale going on in their Outlet section with lots of party dresses in your price range. I ordered this one recently and it’s even prettier in person than in the picture:

I’m really pleased with the quality and style. I can’t wait to wear it to a Valentine dance. Of course, it’s plum, which may be too close to purple for you, but here are some other very pretty party dresses from Coldwater Creek in your size and price range:

Happy hunting, and be sure to post a pic of the dress you choose.

If you do have time to come up to Madison you should try Tiger Lily in East Towne. They have some really cute stuff and it’s reasonably priced.

We’re about the same age aren’t we? (I’m 24) I like Coldwater, but I think some of it would look a little too old on me. I do love that purple wrap dress though!

Just my $.02
Barrels

I’ll be 23 in August, so most of the dresses at Coldwater Creek look too old for me. Except the purple one, which would bring all the red out in my face. Le sigh.

I might be going bridesmaid dress shopping on Sunday, but I’m not sure what’s on the itinerary. We’re either going to a actual dress shop, or we’re going to a department store, which would be great, but I don’t think will happen.

Yeeargh.

Have you tried Forever 21? They have some nice dresses for cheap. They offer things in small, medium and large, though, so I’m not sure how a 12-14 translates…
Forever 21

Happy news, gang! I went shopping this evening with my best friends, and we found a cocktail dress for me . . . for $20! JC Penney was having a 75% off sale, and an $80 dress was marked off holy lots. I haven’t found a picture of it online yet, but it’s a black chiffon halter dress, with a band of lace under the bustline laid over some nude colored fabric. It’s about tea-length on me, but I have the feeling it’s supposed to be knee-length, as I am short.

The funny thing is, the strapless bra I bought to wear with it actually cost more than the dress.
