Anyone still watching Smallville?

Yes, I know that it’s had it’s ups and downs, but is anyone still watching?

This season has had really been a tribute to geekiness. We’ve been introduced to:

  • Zod
  • Jimmy Olsen
  • Martian Manhunter
  • The Justice League (Green Arrow,Cyborg, Aqua Man, and the Flash)
  • The Legion of Doom (Project 33.1)

We’ve also got the upcoming ‘birth’ of Lana’s child, with several cryptic comments that lead me to believe that something totally insane is coming. Any thoughts?

And yes, I’ve tried to browse the Smallville forum site. shudder

I’ve just started watching (can now get the CW over the air, and older episodes are now in syndication).

In the April 12 episode

Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) appears as Chloe’s mom

Brian

I hate to say it, but I gave up. I watched this season’s premiere, and then just let it accumulate on the Tivo until I couldn’t hold onto it anymore. I know I’ll buy the sixth season when it comes out on DVD, and maybe I’ll even enjoy it. However, at this point, I feel they’ve not only jumped the shark, but crossed the ocean. I wish it weren’t true, and I wish I’d seen the Justice League episode, if nothing else, but I just can’t do it on a weekly basis anymore.

The episode where Lex kidnaps Impulse and Oliver Queen forms the JusticeLeague is being shown again next Thursday the 22nd. Worth watching.

I figured I’d keep an eye on the reruns and catch it then. Thanks for the tip!

Oddly enough, I’m enjoying it more now, than I did the first four seasons.

The Justice League episode is the only one this season that I’ve liked. Most of them I haven’t even been able to sit though.

(Also: What is up with the fan reaction to that Green Arrow guy, I can’t figure out why he is getting so much hype and talk of his own spin-off. I want the Flash/Impulse to get his own spin-off, where he can be awesome and funny and spend copious amounts of time crushing on Chloe. )

Can’t say I’m a huge fan, but a lot of it is Oliver basically filing in the “Batman” role in the series (after that fakeout a few seasons ago with Adam Knight). Since we know Bats will never show up in the series, this is a pretty good substitute.

Add to this a better handling of Lois, i thought, than anything Clark has done with any of his interests, if only because of the closure. The ending of the justice ep was quite the counterpoint to all of the banter throughout.

O: Ever since my parents died, i’ve jumped around from city to city, continent to continent and, in all those years, not once have i ever regretted leaving it - But then i met you.
L: Then stay.
O. I can’t. Because there are more important things in this world then what I want - and what i love. It’s something i can’t explain."
L: Don’t expect me to be waiting around for that when you come back."
O: I’m not coming back, Lois… at least not anytime soon."

O: This is it, isn’t it. The moment I’m going to regret for the rest of my life."
(They kiss)

Crazy stuff. While I know it wouldn’t work, I’d not mind a GA/Justice league spinoff- though too much of it is tied to Lex/ Superman (33.1) to survive.

I lost the thread at the end of season 4 and have only been watching sporadically ever since, but the Justice League forming up might convince me to start watching again.

How’ll they introduce Batman or Wonder Woman?

I’m loving this season. I thought they got rid of Zod a little too easily though.

The Justice League episode was really good and I hope it wasn’t just a one time thing. I know they can’t focus on the JL since it’s Smallville but I hope the others in the JL pop in more often.

I’m still a bit confused on why they chose Cyborg as a JL member. As far as I know he was never in the JL just Teen Titans. I wish they would have gone with Wonder Woman and get some girl-power in there. (Just kidding I just want to see her in the costume.)

As far as I understand it, due to movie rights, neither Wonder Woman nor Batman will ever be in the series.

That is lame.

Also I only remember seeing the Martian Manhunter in one episode. Does anyone know if he’s been in more?

Manhunter has been in two or three so far.

Basically, they’ve reached the end of the line, IMHO. The initial idea was to show the development of young Clark as he comes to grips with his powers and responsibilities, etc. They’ve carried him through high school, and now he’s at the crossover point: time to put on glasses and get that job at the Daily Planet, and time for the tights and cape. And they obviously don’t want to go there. So, seems to me, this season has been one long drag-out of, “When you become Superman, you’ll have all these other cool heroes around.” And an extremely long drawn out relationship building with Lois; starting with animosity three seasons ago was kind of fun, but it’s become tedious.

Lana is history, and Lex should be ready to move on to (dare I say it?) trying to take over the world. All the wobbling stuff of the earlier seasons has become repetitive and boring.

I’m vaguely watching them, but I usually fast-forward through around 20 minutes.

Hmm… I’m not so sure about that. He made an appearance in the episode, Labyrinth, but hasn’t shown up since in any of the aired episodes; although, based on the set-up and “mystery” concerning him, there’s no doubt he’ll appear in at least one more before the season is over.

I watch Smallville, but it’s always been pretty bland. I enjoy the Superman mythos (which is why I keep watching), but the writing is usually pretty weak, the characters paper-thin, and the actors just hovering within “B” range.

I think I’ve said this before (and I probably stole this from someone else), but the show’s main guest star? The hospital. Nearly every episode features someone at the hospital, and if St. Elsewhere is not to be found, its twin brother, The Lab, pops in and says “Hi!”

I do appreciate, however, that it’s a popular lead-in to the slowly-improving Supernatural.

I dunno the names of the episodes, but Manhunter appeared at the end of one, killed off the Phantom Zone bad guy and left an oreo. Then he appeared in the one where Clark thought he was in a loony bin, the Manhunter appeared both in the illusion and in the after-wards.

I am watching Smallville riligously, but since it hasn’t aired here yet, I will not read this thread till later.

Hey now. You’re a moderator and all, but Supernatural has always been fabulous…

I retract my previous question (thanks, Stonebow doffs hat) and ask another: if they’re at the end of the line, which I can appreciate after six seasons, how are they going to go out?

I was watching an episode and the point was about to be revealed but I got knocked unconscious.
Again.

Oh, yeah, the episode Static. I was thinking only of Phil Morris (the actor playing Manhunter in Labyrinth); I couldn’t think of a time when he showed up earlier.

It wasn’t bad, but after Buffy I expect a whole heckuva lot more from my shows. Supernatural has done better since Ben Edlund (he of The Tick and also an Angel writer) showed up as a producer, but before that it really lacked direction. Mostly the episodes were fun single shots that contributed nothing or nearly nothing to a more involved, season-long arc. They rushed it at the end of Season 1 and managed to drag the same villain into Season 2, which, quite honestly, reminds me a bit of the A-Team Syndrome: No matter what happens in an episode, everything stays the same.

Screw you guys (kidding of course). I loved this episode. I can’t stand that green arrow dude, so I’m glad he’s finally gone. Martian Manhunter sounds interesting. I’m more than a little sad about the movie rights thing as I love Batman too. I’ll admit though, I’m not much of a comic book guy. I have no idea why I like this series so much. I’m way too old for this show.
I’m curious to see what they do with Chloe if they don’t kill her off. She’s a meteor freek I guess. As she pointed out, that’s not good for her health.
