Anyone Successfully Complete the iPhone 3.0 Upgrade?

I’ve downloaded the software, but when I try to activate it, I get an error that I can’t connect to the Apple servers, and to try again later. Anyone else?

I kept getting the messages, but it finally went through about 30 minutes ago.

So far I’ve tried four times, no dice.

I was able to download, install, and activate it at about 1:15 PM EST. I’ve heard from friends that they are getting server errors from the activation server. I’m assuming it is swamped at this point with traffic.

Hmm- thanks for the reminder, I’d forgotten all about this wonderful day.

Just updated to 3.0, had no problems.

Got it to go through the activation server about 10 minutes ago, finally. Halfway through the firmware upgrade, looks like everything’s working (so far)

Can’t wait to see the new features!

Anybody played with the tethering feature yet? Is it going to require a jailbreak to use on AT&T?

While the OP was looking for a factual answer, this one will probably play out better in IMHO, where you can still usually get factual answers, along with opinions, and general chit chat.

Not sure about jailbreaking, but AT&T said they won’t support the MMS and Tethering until later this summer.

Anyway, I had zero problems DL’ing and installing the software. Everything seems to be hunky-dory, and the Find My iPhone feature through MobileMe is way cool.

I’m gonna pick up a 3GS on Friday…

I did it five hours ago. It went as smooth as can be.

I envy you hajario. I had huge problems last night. Installing the patch came up with an unexpected error, so I had to recover my iPhone - the first time I tried it, I got another error. After a reboot of my computer, same thing. I found some advice saying to switch the USB port I was plugged into and that allowed me to recover the phone.

Then I had to restore the backup, which was incredibly slow. Once the backup was restored, I had to do a sync to get my apps and music back, which triggered another backup. Overall, it took me about 4 hours to get 3.0 installed.

I finally got it updated last night around 10pm. So far, so good.

I got it at 2:18AM JST! and it worked without a hitch. The servers did take a looong time though. Its nice to finally get MMS and better camera software. I suggest trying some time after the official launch though, you might have a much faster upgrade.

FYI: I was just perusing the Top 25 app list, and came across an ESPN application I was interested in. Many of the reviews talked about how the presence of that app caused massive hangups while backing up their phone to do the 3.0 update.

I’m a little late reading this, but I had the same problem connecting as the OP. I just persisted at it and the verification finally went through and the upgrade got installed.
