Anyone Trying The New Opera 7?

Well, the full version of Opera 7 is out.

Anyone tried it yet? Thoughts?

FWIW, I cannot get my mouse wheel to work in it so I cannot scroll the windows. And while the new Opera 7 skins are available, you cannot preview the images on the My Opera web site.

Yeah, I just installed it. I’m trying to find my old bookmarks, but am not having any luck. Seems to be waaay faster than 6.5.

Yup, installed it yesterday and so far I’d also agree that it is a lot faster than 6.5 and seems to be far better at displaying pages than 6.5 used to be.

Dukster, I noticed the problem with displaying the skin previews when I was using Opera at work yesterday (and it’s still got the same problem today). However, and this is odd, when I installed Opera 7 at home yesterday (working on a dial line) the skins previewed fine. Why this is has got me confused!

I have Opera 7 final at work and 7b2 at home. Both versions have a few bugs. Final renders pages more accurately and seems faster.

grey_ideas I was reading on the Opera boards a few minutes ago that the skin preview was deliberately disabled on the server side because of performance issues. Maybe they have re-enabled it?

I’m using it and my mouse wheel is working fine. This is my first foray into non-IE, non-Netscape surfing, so I was a little bit apprehensive, but so far it’s working fine.

Wait, no…there’s a site with a message board that somehow won’t let me log in. I’ve tried accepting all popups, that kind of thing and still - no dice. I’ve written to their webmaster, though.

Definately check out their forum! I’ve gotten answers to almost all my questions about the new version from either reading them or posting questions. Gotta say, once you get a decent skin on it, and figure out the changes, O7 kicks ass!

Thanks for the tips.

I checked the Opera Forums and found there is a definite problem when using the mouse wheel. It appears to vary among posters. In any case I’m not alone in being unable to scroll pages with the wheel. So far, no fix. :frowning:

Oh well. For now, a small price to pay for an excellent browser. Page rendering is way, way faster than 6.05.

I’ve gone back to Opera 6.05 as my primary browser. Opera 7 started locking up visiting secure sites.

I’ve gone back to Opera 6.05 as my primary browser. Opera 7 started locking up something really bad while visiting secure sites, even causing Win2000 and WinXP to become unstable and force reboots.

Opera 7 works great for me here… I installed it because my IE f*cked up badly (Any help there would still be appreciated)

Anyway, I like O7 but do not want to pay for a browser to get rid of banner ads… so I am undecided what to do. That and for some reason some secure sites with auto logons don’t seem to work. (not that that is really a huge deal breaker) The one thing I love is the ability in the “file” menu to change preferences quickly such as turning off popups. Props to the designers for that one. And to multiple page tabbing in one window. Props there too.

I’m playing with it at the moment. I like the skinning and that it displays more sites correctly.

I’ll still need 6.5 because I can’t remember the passwords for a couple of email accounts so transfering them to 7 is out. Which brings me to M2, the built in email client: This is gonna take me some time to get used to.

CuriousCanuck: You may like MyIE2. It uses IE to render pages, but has a tabbed interface, ad-blocker and other cool features.

You can do that even faster by pressing the F12 key.
