Your essay reminds me of an old Night Gallery episode. A violent criminal is put in stasis, to be awakened in a future generation when treatment becomes available to treat his “illness”. He awakes years later and is informed that they do indeed have a cure for his kind of sickness. He is led to a room, but doesn’t like what he sees: a hangman’s gallows.
