My DVR cut off the last minute of the show. Chief Johnson asked Gabriel to sign the write-up of excessive force, and he put the paper back down on the desk, refusing to sign it. Cut off! What happened?
We had the same problem - looked like he was signing then blip
He did sign it, but was not happy.
Brenda got a phone call, and had to go to the jail. Perp had told them location of other bodies correctly, but they found him hanged in his cell with…appeared to be his own shirt.
Gah. Was that before or after? Anyway.
Show ran over 10 minutes, partly showing preview of upcoming Saving Grace.
Yikes, my DVR cut quite deeply into the end. I didn’t see any of that!
OK, I caught a later airing of the show, and here’s what happened:
Johnson calls Gabriel into her office and tells him she is very angry at him, and that she and Taylor had to write him up for excessive force, and give him a 10 day suspension without pay. She says, significantly, that she can’t just let it go because he’s her favorite. Poor Gabriel barely has the chance to register this admission as she presses on with her disciplinary action.
So, he can either sign the write up and take the suspension, or he can get a lawyer and roll the dice with IAD. At first, he slams the paper and pen down, like he’s not going to sign. That’s where my DVR cut off. But seconds later, he picks it up, signs it, takes out his gun and badge and leaves them. As he’s exiting, Johnson asks him if he has to deal with a perp like this in the future, can she count on him NOT to do this again. He says he doesn’t know, and she says, don’t come back until you do. End of ep.
I’m sure Gabriel will be back soon enough. He’s her favorite, after all, and apparently Cap. Taylor’s favorite too.
Thanks! My DVR cut off at the same time yours did. Wasn’t that a good episode? (Other than not enough Fritzy.) Much better than last week’s, I thought.
While I’m here, I was meaning to ask - did anyone else notice that the season opener a couple of weeks ago was commercial-free? I wonder why TNT did that, and didn’t even brag about it.
Thanks! Their relationship was already strained from the ep 2 weeks ago (the gangbanger & his brother), so it’ll be interesting to see how things develop from here.
I like everyone in the squad room, but there’s definitely a hierarchy, story-wise, between the top tier (Gabriel, Mutt & Jeff/Flynn & Provenza) and the second tier (Daniels, Tao, Sanchez). As much as I like the first group, I really like it when the second tier gets some additional attention.
Doesn’t TNT run it again throughout the week? Anyone know which day?
I rented Season One of Rescue Me from the library and completely forgot about The Closer. I’m so ashamed.
What I liked about this show is that it showed Johnson desperately trying to “still win” this one, yet she did not take the opportunity to sweep Gabriel’s misdeed under the rug… she was clearly torn by it.
I have the feeling that if Gabriel had said “It will never happen again” that the paper he signed would’ve been changed.
I kept expecting Gabriel to say something about the incident 2 weeks ago - he clearly had something to say and held back, perhaps it was to argue how Privenza/flynn get away with things or something, but I do think it showed his muster by him not giving into that debate and taking his punishment.
When they said they had the FBI BAU on scene, I kept hoping for a Cameo by Gideon… now THAT would be an episode.
