Anyone watching the SNL Season 1 dvds?

I’ve been watching the first full season of Saturday Night Live on DVD. The show is very different. The shows feature a lot of music, the second episode with Paul Simon is at least 75% music.

The Muppets and the Albert Brooks films don’t work most of the time.

Still, I love these old shows. While I don’t remember late night tv in the 1970s, I’m sure SNL was so different than anything else on Saturday nights at that time.

No. Nobody’s renting it either.

I have one of those suspicions that early SNL suffers from the old ‘memory is better than the reality’ complex.

Bought it, watched it. I had pneumonia while I watched the last two discs or so, so I don’t remember any of it very clearly.

I know they aren’t in all cases truly the complete and original episodes as they aired, in case that’s part of what the OP is getting at, but they are pretty much what I remember watching back in the 70s.

From what I understand, they’re the episodes that were edited slightly when they were repeated. I don’t mind that. I wasn’t old enough to watch them live anyway.

Yes, we have Seasons 1 and 2, going through Season 2 right now, when Bill Murray came on board.

One of my earliest memories of SNL was watching REM do ‘‘Losing My Religion.’’ So it’s been really fascinating to go back to SNL’s roots and to be frank my husband and I sort of feel like anthropologists learning about this era of time through pop culture satire.

I really enjoy the show. It’s not hysterically funny, more like a variety show, but it’s quite entertaining.

I just saw Toni Basil on an episode.

I only knew here from Mickey!
