Or perhaps frequented one a whole lot?
The reason I ask is because I was traumatized, TRAUMATIZED I tell ya, by a life size cardboard cutout when I was a kid and I’d love to know who is responsible.
Actually, here’s my hazy recollection… it was of a single guy, vaguely remembered to look something like Robert Plant (or some other [I’m assuming] big name cock rocker) who is standing there, legs apart, looking up and singing in all his glory, only to be impaled by a giant < wait for it! > pen. Or rather, the same size as him – so giant to me. At least, I think that’s what it was. So does this sound even remotely familiar to anyone? Close? Help! I need to purge this while I’ve still got the strength to fight back.
< crosses fingers and prays to the gods of heavy metal for assistance >
And no, I’m positive it wasn’t my lovely Alice.
Fast forward to many years ago; I believe I asked about this once on the snopes board and got nary a reply, but if anyone can sort it out, Dopers’ll be to the rescue! If this jogs a memory with anyone here, I promise virtual roses and chocolate for leading me down the right path to victory. There’s gotta be an answer somewhere. < baits hook > Anyway, since I don’t know how to Google this sort of thing…
I’ll just say thanks and wait with breathless trepidation. Og please.
That sounds like the ad for the Rolling Stones’ “It’s Only Rock & Roll,” which illustrates the line “If I could stick my pen in my heart…” See here.
Hmmm. Biffy, that has to be it. I thought the person was rendered in a realistic way, but it’s more than possible that he was the cartoon-like figure you posted. Otherwise, it certainly fits all the other criteria that I remembered. So that said, these are for you honey…
Box o’ chocolates and some lovelyfriendship roses. You are a lifesaver! < smooch >
Truly, who knew it’d be gotten in one!? Now does anyone actually recall seeing one of these puppies in a store anywhere? There has to be one of you hiding here somewhere. I’ll keep hoping.
The first thing I thought of was Angus Young on AC/DC’s If You Want Blood. But that’s a guitar, not a pen.
Yanno Simmerdown (love your name!), that certainly fits my concept better because it would depict him “in real life” versus as a cartoon. But the key component for me seemed to really focus on the pen aspect, otherwise I don’t know how on earth I’d have remembered it in the first place. Plus, that came out in '78, right? Surely at 10 I would’ve known the difference between the two. Of course, unless I’ve been more traumatized than I thought.
Regardless though, thanks for the link to that, 'cause you may be hitting on the right thing after all. Now if we could just find anyone who’d seen either one of these things in a store, all cardboard cutout fashion, I’d know for sure. < sigh > Anybody still following along that did?
