1.- I don’t live in the USA.
2.- Even in the USA, some people will ask about hobbies as a way to gauge your personality. I’ve gone to corporate interviews where the form you had to fill included a part for “hobbies”. Sometimes it’s done (inadvertently) as part of the “relaxing chit chat”… people will mention last night’s football results and if you say “sorry, I don’t follow football” they look at you like you got horns.
3.- Of course they get the personality part totally wrong, like the person who thought trekking was a loner’s thing. It’s actually one of my social hobbies.
Nava, I always enjoy reading your posts, because of your international perspective on a lot of issues. In this instance, I think the English word “hiking” would work better here, and would convey what you are after. At least in the US, if you talk about “trekking”, the first thing people will associate with is Star Trek conventions.
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
