I can’t do a telephone survey. This is a fucking message board, not The 7.30 Report: it’s common practice to cite the attitudes of the people we know and attempt to draw a general conclusion.

However, one thing. I am not really too interested in the way we project ourselves to the world. I don’t really care that much (because I don’t think I have too much cringe, internally).

Well at least this we can agree on. Yay!

Yeah I’ve kind of figured that it’s traditional for Opal to appear on lists, I just don’t know who Opal is, or how it all began. I’ll do some searching.

BTW, Opal does appear on my list, just maybe not in the usual manner.

Standard Opal answer: Opal is a longtime poster on these boards who once remarked that it wasn’t a list if had only two items. All lists should have at least three items, even if the third one is just “Hi Opal”. It’s now become a tradition that the third list item (even if there’s more than three items anyway) references Opal.

If there isn’t an in-joke FAQ, there oughta be.

A trip to Brissy would be well cool though. Only been there once (too briefly, and too long ago). Seemed like a decent sort of place. I’d love to go back, and a BrisDope would be just the excuse I need.

But you buggers are welcome in Sydneytown for the AusDope we’re planning. We’re trying to work out how we’ll organise it. I reckon the interstate Dopers scrape together their own dough for the airfares, and the SydDopers buy the beer (could be making a big mistake there! ) and provide somewhere for you to crash.

And re: the Peter Allen song. I love it. I spent over a year travelling overseas, something many Aussies do, and that song means something to me. I lived the other 22 years in Australia, but I didn’t really learn to love it until I left. (as usual, YKMV, IMO, etc :))
