AP News reports: Suspect in shooting death of Portland Trump supporter shot dead as federal officers tried to arrest him

APNews is reporting that the prime suspect in the Portland shooting death of Aaron “jay” Danielson was shot dead as federal authorities tried to arrest him. The suspect, Michael Reinoehl, pulled a gun on a federal law enforcement officer. The law enforcement officer fatally shot Reinoehl in the encounter near Lacey, WA.

The AP cites as its source a “senior Justice Department official” who was not free to speak publicly about the incident.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Or has he just achieved martyrdom?

Reinoehl had described himself as “100% ANTIFA” in a social media post according to the AP report. I would hazard to guess that in addition to more moderate responses there will be many wildly inappropriate reactions from the left and the right. I haven’t checked the comments section of partisan news sites but I imagine the vitriol is already flowing.

This happened just a few blocks from my work.

I do not look forward to dealing with the aftermath.

Those fucking body cameras better have been turned on.

From what I read he described himself as 100% anti-fascist but not a member of the ANTFA movement. My uncle was 100% antifascist as well, he landed on in Europe on D-Day+3 and started killing fascist until May of 1945.

Still, going to a peaceful protest with a gun should be unlawful for both sides. Guns just make matters get out of control and have nothing to do with peaceful protesting.

Amen!

His instagram post is widely quoted as saying “I am 100% ANTIFA all the way!”

And it should be especially difficult for some one who has previous weapons violations (from this LA Times article):

Reinoehl was also wanted on a warrant out of Baker County in eastern Oregon, where court records show he skipped a hearing related to a case in June in which he was charged with driving under the influence of controlled substances, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm.

For which we owe him a considerable debt of gratitude.

Were he doing this today among civilians on the streets of a US city, our reaction would be a bit different.

I told you he stopped killing them in 1945. He was still anti-fascist without being ANTFA up until he died last Christmas.

And I believed you.

My point would be that his actions from D-Day to 1945 are no sort of justification for what’s happening in Portland today.

The killing on both sides are not justified yes. But anti-fascism in itself has not been seen as a crime, we fought a war against it is my point. I have seen news sources quoting him has saying he was not ANTFA, just anti-fascist. Even if a true statement how do you believe someone who brings a gun to a peaceful protest?

No justification for Reinoehl’s actions, no.

Plenty of justification for standing up against the fascists marching in our streets, though.

If only Germany of the 1930’s had some more antifas.

There were quite a few; unfortunately they were just as bad and in fact contributed heavily to bringing the Nazi party to power.

So much for his “self defense” claim…

By contrast,

It looks like the victim came ready-to-rumble. He may have incited the incident by using the bear spray. But, you know, he was a saint. According to his friends.

Brace yourself, honey. Another article I read had a blue bigwig indicating he was unaware of ANY video of the ‘arrest’ attempt, including body cams. I am just as stunned as you are with that little nugget.

Portland police don’t have bodycams:

The odd part of the story is that the officers that did the shooting were a WA Corrections officer, two Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputies and a Lakewood Police Officer. Lacey is in Thurston County, not terribly far from the Pierce County line but still a fair hike from Lakewood (a town in Pierce County). It would seem that those individuals were brought onboard because Pierce County is a hotbed of turmoil that breeds trigger-happiness.

Germany did and they were called communists. An ideology that led and continues to lead to more death and suffering than the Nazis.
