Okay, lately I’ve been noticing people have been linking directly to pictures off my site eating up my bandwidth. Yes, it hasn’t been that much considering I have 5ghz a month I don’t want this to get out of control and nip it in the bud.
Does anyone know what the mod or patch for Apache that keeps people from linking directly to pictures on my site? I want it to be that if people go directly to the pictures on my site they can see them but not if someone has their own site and they decide to link directly to it.
Take a look at mod_rewrite and this Apache Today article. Also, I believe you meant 5 GB, rather than 5 GHz.
The “Apache Today” article is a good one.
Something you can also do is replace the images, but don’t re-name them. Either edit the original image to say “This picture was pirated by so-and-so illegally”, or, replace the images with the most profoundly sick, hard-core bestiality porn that you can find. It also helps if you know that someone say, oh, “John” is stealing your pictures, you can edit the porn to put a tattoo of “John” on the man. Or the pig, or the chipmunk, or whatever. Be creative.
I use the picture replacement therapy on my site. It is what Homestead suggested. I was getting emails stating I was exceeding my daily bandwidth limit. The wierd part is the pictures were of the vacation my wife and I took last year. Never found out who did it or why.
