Apologies for my comments

I just wanted to apologize to the board for my homophobic comments in one of these threads. Thanks for calling me out on them.

I can assure you, I’ll exercise better judgement next time.

Simulpost!

Score!!!

Consider yourself fortunate the thread was closed before I had a chance to take a swipe at you.

OK, so the guy apologizes, says thanks for calling him on it, and we threaten him. Sounds fair to me.

Father Pacelli, I commend you on apologizing, even if your OP was harsh.

I’m sorry, where exactly were you told life was fair? You were lied to. I’d sue.

Esprix

Father Pacelli, thanks for apologizing.

I would have posted a “ditto what matt said” contribution in that thread had Tuba not already locked it.

It would be rather nice if male folk could be spared the association of sexual preference with unrelated behavioral patterns. It isn’t doing us sissies any good; the gay folk have said they are tired of it; and, frankly, hetero guys in general could do without the assumption that homophobia is a male heterosexual trait.

Just because life isn’t fair doesn’t mean I can’t attempt to treat other people equitably. For instance, I think that legalizing homosexual marriages would only be fair, since heterosexual couples have that same right. Or should I just say “fuck it, them gays don’t need equal rights, life ain’t fair”?

Esprix, calm down.

Father Pacelli, I accept and appreciate your apology. Very gentlemanly of you.

Are you going to exercise better judgement in what you say or how you view things?

If the former, apologies aren’t worth much. If the latter, then the board is doing its job.

Either way, I suppose, at least you won’t upset Esprix enough to make him need to worry about blood-pressure as well as civil rights.

I didn’t say the apology wasn’t appropriate, I merely stated that he’s fortunate he came around so quickly. I wouldn’t have been as kind as matt was.

It is, indeed, gentlemanly of him to have apologized at all. And even if it is just using better judgement in what he says, Laur, it’s a step in the right direction of fighting ignorance, n’est-ce pas?

matt: Someone showed me how the letters of “Alec Guiness” can be rearranged to form the phrase “genuine class”. Well, you don’t need an anagram generator to see that matt_mcl = genuine class.

You are forgiven in my mind. I just wish someone would have commented on my comment before it was closed. It was the best I have done in the Pit for a while : (

You are one step closer on your path to enlightenment.

Thumbs up to Father P. and a big Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board!

Dude.

Yeah word. I was trying to get to the guy and give him a heads-up before you guys torched him. Oh well. The lesson, hopefully, is learned.

More props from me to Father Pacelli for apologizing, and to matt_mcl for accepting so graciously. Wouldn’t it be nice if this could so painlessly be counted a victory.

Nice to see this apology. Very decent of you, Father Pacelli.

Exactly!
