Same here, but if I am told that there is a problem with my reporting, my first instinct isn’t to find some way to blame anyone else but myself. The Mods are very helpful when it comes to pointing out when I may have gone too far, and it is appreciated.
It isn’t a lot, though most posters have less.
For what it is worth, I don’t recall ever being annoyed by one of your flags.
We actually do encourage flags, but a pattern was seen with two posters and two only where I let them know it was becoming a problem.
We can’t read every post, I’m can barely glance at every OP. That is more to tag them and see if they’re in the right forum. I move the obvious ones.
Aspenglow states my complaint about the modding was untruthful. I asked what did I say in this thread that was untrue about that modding? All I said was based on what she and I went back and forth on and now this from What_Exit, I feel a banning is in that works. So again what did I say about Aspenglow’s modding that was untrue?
I don’t even know where to look for that.
Just Click on your username and it should bring up your profile. But I’m not sure if you see the counters we do.
I just checked with our test account, it looks like you can’t see the counters.
Getting to the point of the thread, you tried to make the case that it was the number of reports, and not the actual reports themselves, that was the problem here. I think it has been sufficiently pointed out that this is not true.
Neither do I. Sometimes I want clarification of the rules. I think other than recently with Aspenglow I’ve maybe argued with mods a few times and in full disclosure my argument with Aspenglow was about why do most posters get a note for this but I got a warning. In fact, Aspenglow recommended I bring the issue here and I said no because I didn’t want to call out a good mod publicly on a disagreement like that. I wouldn’t have even brought it up here except to say, “Hmmmmm. Me thinks there is more going on here behind the scenes than just that.”
Exactly. Which is why the responses from Aspenglow and What_Exit make me think I’m on a list, and not the good one.
But can you entertain the notion that you are wrong?
Well then I can clear this up. You’re not on a “list” as you’ve never been suspended. That is basically the “list”, not that we have an official list.
On top of that you’ve had only 2 warnings, though it is noticed you can be badgering and jerkish in posting. You should watch that.
I’ve noticed you love to argue, even on flags and it has become a time using nuisance.
As far as banning: It usually goes through several steps.
Modnotes & Warnings that don’t change behavior leads to a 3 day suspension.
You don’t improve after the 3 day, you get a 7 day and if still not improving a 30 day.
One poster has had two 30 days and showed much improvement both times. If you specifically ignore Moderator instructions or go the “Death by Moderator” route, this can and does shorten the cycle.
@Saint_Cad is no where close to any of this.
I have figured if something is obviously a violation, Im not the only one who has noticed and others will report it.
Now Im wondering how many times Ive flagged. Not many.
Yeah. I went tweny four years without a thread ban. I managed to get two this year. I started an ATMB thread about the first one primarily to find out exactly what I had done wrong so that I could avoid doing it again. It has been a much worse year than I expected. Getting myself banned from the Dope would make it still worse.
Only 13 according to the counter. Which I’m not sure is accurate.
I just realized I likely hold the record for posts reported.
Wrong about what exactly?
I don’t think I’m wrong that TPTB have me on a Straight Dope version of a PIP. I have seen this scenario too many times in the business world to not think that.
In my time here, there have only been two mods that I thought were not good, but one everyone else thought was fantastic so I said maybe that’s a me issue. So yes, I admitted I was wrong if that mod made a decision I disagreed with.
Am I wrong and I make to many bad reports? Well, the first thing What_exit said to me was
You are over reporting. This is becoming a problem. I advise you to stop bothering the Moderators as much as you do.
So my interpretation was “You are reporting too much.” It was his second message that said.
We see trends. You have a high incidence of Flags rejected.
So now it is too many bad reports? And I know those are all of the drive-by anti-Trump posts I report. Like I said above, today Puzzlegal said I was misinterpreting the rule on those post so was I wrong there? Yes and now I know when to report them and when not to. Incidentally some of those reports were upheld so I was unclear on those. That is why I appreciate a mod who clarifies the situation to save everyone aggravation.
Well, I guess that answers my question.
That is accurate.
The Helpful Flag counter is not accurate, I just checked. I’ll have to check our reports and see if it has anything useful for this. I think one does.
I’ve thought this too (about myself). The mods have consistently said there is no “list” beyond the most egregious offenders.
That said, they have memories. They form opinions of people/posters same as anyone else. They can easily decide that this or that person is a problem without a formal list.
I’m feeling more and more sympathy for the mods as this continues
Exactly. I think Aspenglow is a great mod and if she says I’m wrong, then (to answer Czarcasm) I’m wrong. So when I asked why would most posters get a mod note early on but I was given enough rope to make it a warning, I was fully expecting her to explain to me the difference in the situation and guess what, she would be right. But instead I got that posters are not entitled to a note as a warning and I could bring it to ATMB and apparently it was in the mod loop that I was like whoa! I know I’m not one of the cool kids here but clearly there is more at work here than I know. Then less than 24 hours later the disparity in replies I got from Puzzlegal saying hey stop doing this, let me tell you when to report and What_Exit’s you make too many bad reports makes me think that I got the mod version of a wedgie by the jocks.
Holy crap – no kidding! Y’all have a level of patience that I can only aspire to. My hat is off to @What_Exit and @Aspenglow. (Quick, go get me a hat so I can take it off to you two.)
What_Exit’s handle, “Cat Herder Mod” is extremely apropos.
