Yeah I doubt this one warning is a big deal unless you continue to get warnings and I doubt that will happen.
I’ve done that sometimes, but I will note that even when I post instructions in LARGE BOLD RED FONT some people ignore them anyway.:smack::smack:
Dude, if you keep accumulating warnings every two decades like that, you might be less than half a century away from being in deep sh:t.
It sucks when you miss an instruction like that, but I’m pretty sure no one sees you as a chronic defyer of board rules/mod instructions.
I wonder what Colibri’s view on all this is?
I’m not sure why. However, I would say that kanicbird’s post was warnable on the face of it, regardless of mod instructions. since it was wildly inappropriate for GQ, and he’s been around long enough to be aware of this. kanicbird does have a history of inappropriate posts in GQ, for which he has usually been noted for rather than warned. I’ve given him a warning myself for ignoring mod instructions, which I rescinded because he claimed he hadn’t seen the instruction. So if this time he got a warning instead of a note, he hardly has grounds for complaint, since he’s dodged a bullet before, and by this time he should really, really know better. If you have a habit of going 60 in a 55 mph zone, you can’t complain if you eventually get a ticket rather than an admonition. I will also say that not seeing a mod instruction is not in any way an excuse. It’s fine if kanicbird wants to make it clear that he was not deliberately defying mod instructions, but that’s neither here nor there whether a warning was justified.
While I am interested in your opinion, I think I just whooshed you. Post #24 not noticing post #22…
Maybe Colibri missed his own post?
It’s got to be consistent across all moderation to really grab peoples’ attention. Eventually the board culture would change so that any time we see **a post written entirely like this, **we pause and make sure to pay it close attention.
Yeah, it would require a new rule about not spoofing mod instructions, but hardly anybody ever writes posts entirely in bolded anything. It wouldn’t be an issue.
I do really wish the mods would agree upon one standard for marking important instructions. Not only could we easily Ctrl-F to check for them, but I could even automatically mark them in a userscript.
Right now, I wouldn’t want to suggest anything due to the possibility of false positives. But if everyone can agree on even a set of different ways to mark a mod post, that would be nice.
You said you were wondering what my opinion was “on all this,” which I took to mean the issue in the OP, not just writing instructions in red. So if you whooshed me, it was because your post was unclear.
Actually, the “board culture” for many people is to rush in and make a post without having read the rest of the thread anyway, and sometimes not even the OP, so while it might help it wouldn’t eliminate the problem.
“Rarely”? We have several people on this site who seem to have made a hobby out of seeing how much they can get away with. LOL
Also, I think you are being unfair because you are ignoring the fact that moderators take into account posters being new or having a good track record. They do that by using “moderator notes” instead of warnings. I received a moderator note before I received a warning. Rather than whine about it, I chose to accept the responsibility for my actions.
While there are some that refuse suggestions that do not completely solve the problem(s) being addressed, I am not one of them. If there is a decent chance that this particular solution will help alleviate this problem I say go for it…if it can be done without too much effort, of course.
My biggest issue with offsetting the text somehow is I do a lot of housekeeping modding from my phone. Selecting text properly, then having to hit the right radio button is actually pretty difficult, because once text is selected a pop up window (copy/cut/etc.) appears and hovers over where the buttons are. So to insert the proper PHP codes, I have to type them manually.
It’s kind of a pain. From my computer it’s easy so I do that when I think notes may be missed. I also try to remember that I view threads at 100 posts per page, but for the default of 40, the page change can also have an impact.
What about special mod tags, as mentioned in this thread?
There are no “special mod tags” available for use. Not sure we could create one.

How about just reading the thread. It’s what we should do in order to properly participate anyway, and would avoid the issue without any changes being necessary.
Yeah. But you read the thread in order, I hope. So there on page 1, you find a post you want to reply to. So you do. Then on page 2, you find a mod note saying dont reply to that post or whatever. Now if we had a longer edit time, one could then go to your post and edit it out. But our edit time is very short. I am not sure why.
And when the thread gets too long, newcomers often read the Op then the last page.
I think making all mod instruction posts all red or something isnt asking too much.
Or, you could read the entire thread before posting.
