Appealing warning issues by Chronos.

Well, mod notes could be in all bold which would be sufficiently distinctive even when scrolling.

Naturally enough, this would have to be reserved for mod-only use. We fortunately get only a few latter-day grapists who try to make their text stand out in some way.

Could you hit the “bold” and “color” buttons first and type your message inside the code?

The other issue with having a single standard “mod tag” is that not all moderator actions are the same. When I post a note that I fixed a typo in the thread title, I don’t want that to look the same as when I’m giving someone a warning. When I post in red, that means that either someone is getting a warning, or someone is very close to getting a warning.

You are talking about something 5 years ago, which yes I missed that also due to reasons I stated (IIRC I left a window open for server hours in mid reply, during which time you posted your warning note) . It seems like I have demonstrated what I have said, I don’t disobey a mod’s instructions. I am only requesting my record reflect that. And yes mod instruction should be somehow highlighted.

That’s why I specified “official mod instructions.” I also don’t think it’s necessary for stuff like that.

Or you could ban the lazy moderation practice that is in-thread rulemaking, especially given that the goto=newpost function on this board doesn’t work correctly. A hijack doesn’t become a hijack just because a mod declares it one. Cornfielding and one-day suspensions work wonders in other fora.

This is a crazy idea and I’m sure the answer is “we can’t do that”, but is there any way to somehow insert any mod instructions to the beginning of the thread? Either added as a banner, or inset before the first post, or editing the first post and tacking it onto the end of it? Because while many people don’t read an entire thread, and you might expect people to miss the instructions on page 145 of a 310 page thread, just about everyone at least reads the OP. That way newcomers to the thread are forewarned.

You’d of course additionally add a regular post with the instructions so that people checking the thread for updates will see it, and also so that it’s clear at what point those instructions were added.

Anyway, just a crazy idea, maybe not feasible.

So, you don’t want us to create rules in threads; you just want us to enforce the rules that we’re not creating? How does that work?

Johnny Bravo, even within the realm of official mod instructions, there are multiple levels and shades of meaning.

Atamasama, adding a new post at the beginning of a thread is theoretically doable, but it’s an excessively slow and complicated multi-step process. Nobody would ever moderate if that’s what we had to do to issue mod instructions. Editing them into the first post would be doable, but I fear that it would be misinterpreted as coming from the OP themself, rather than from the editing mod, and I for one am loathe to put my words into another’s mouth.

Right, we just want Mod notes that apply to every poster to be in Red or something. Those are quite rare.

How often do you have to make a mod note that applies to all subsequent posters? Those seem quite rare.

You could ad, in red to the Op “See Mod Note post 22” .

Hiding the mod notes does not seem to be a popular practice from your customers comments.

Quite often. That’s why I don’t like to make a big deal of it.

I thought that my suggestion was simple enough that if it worked, it would have been implemented by now. I thought I’d be remiss not suggesting it anyway. I understand if it’s too much of a hassle.

Well, we are trying to **help you **get more posters follow the Note, so you dont have to give out warnings.

Or just have people read the thread and pay attention.

I dont see why anyone has to read every post in a 5 page thread before replying on the off chance there might be a Mod instruction hidden there.

Do the mods wanna set traps or get people not to do whatever thing?

Mods do have the ability to edit thread titles, though. Adding see mod note @ post ### to a thread title would be a method of alerting all users (even those in a hurry to post a response) to the fact that it’s there.

I can certainly see some factors that would make such a practice impracticable, among them the message board equivalent of moral hazard, by it isn’t really so that NOTHING can be done.

A-a-a-nd it looks like I was ninja’d. That’ll teach me to not read the whole thread…

With multiple mod notes that could be a problem when it comes to title length.

How many times have we seen multiple Mod Notes that apply to* all posters*?

That’s not the only reason to do it, it’s just a nice bonus. I mean, I know we all sometimes reply as soon as we read a post, but it’s not a *good *habit.
