Applying for K1 visa - Old lost SSN?

My fiancee worked in the US something like 12 years ago and believes that she was issued a Social Security card and social security number. At some point, she threw the card away and she doesn’t know what the number was.

We’re currently about to begin the process of getting her a K1 visa (I-129F) and one of the questions is what her social security number is (if she has one).

Should we skip this? Should we take the time to try and track down her old number? If the latter, how can we do that?

Thank you.

She will need it eventually anyway once she immigrates - the SS number remains the same for the person’s entire lifetime. Where does she live? If there is a Social Security unit at the U.S. Embassy where she lives, they should be able to help. Even if there isn’t, the Embassy should be able to point her in the right direction. I’d say she should contact Social Security in the U.S., but it’s a giant PITA to get anyone on the phone there.

If she had to do taxes, she may be able to find it in her old tax paperwork.
