Apprentice: 9/23/04 (possible spoilers)

I honestly think the “best” possible candidates already have good jobs and yeah, many of them while perfectly attractive in the normal setting aren’t necessarily TV material. So it’s a pretty self-selecting group of famewhores. Besides, I, personally, am not too keen to work for someone filing for multiple bankruptcies.

I think in a pool of a few hundred thousand you should be able to find twenty qualified and photogenic individuals. I’m sure “Looks good on TV” was one of the qualities they screened for but given the size of the applicant pool I don’t see why they couldn’t also get skilled, competant people. Of course skilled, competant people don’t necessarily make for good television.

Something I noticed was that a lot of the applicants treat the show like any other reality program. They don’t account for the fact that Trump is treating this like a hiring process and they think that as long as they’re in the “game” they can win. Anyone who tries to “play” like that (which is all the women from what we saw this week) is going to lose. Anyone who treats it as a hiring/promotion process tend to do a lot better.

Just a reminder that this week’s show will be on Wednesday rather than Thursday. Anyone know if this is a permanent change, or just for this week?

Just this week – there’s a presidential debate on Thursday.

The first presidential debate is taking place in East Coast prime time on Thursday. Not permanent, but if the remaining debates are all on Thursdays then it won’t be the last time either.

I wouldn’t have been unhappy had they moved the Apprentice to another day. Spread the wealth a bit.

There is a big hole in my Wednesday viewing…

I don’t fully understand your question here. Yes Stacy attempted to hire temps-- last week. And it was revealed she was assigned the job of finding temps by the PM at the time, Ivana.

IIRC, the person supposedly hired and worked half to death on this task was a homeless woman, so it seems unlikely that she would have come from a temp agency in any case, making Stacy callling about temps a moot point anyway.

This particular issue has been hashed to death on the TWoP forums, and the concensus seems to be that the story is bull. It just doesn’t hold together, for a lot of reasons. The incident was cited as happening in Washington Square, where the men were holding their event, but Carolyn, who was clearly shown watching the women, is said to have been involved. It seems unlikely that either team would want a quite possibly smelly homeless person involved in their event. The story is very specific about some things like the worker’s age, but vague about other things like which team it was, whether EMS was ever called, if the woman was ever taken to the ER, etc. If an EMT saw someone apparently having a coronary, you can bet your ass they’d call 911 rather than attempting transport by themselves. If you were going to attempt transport by yourself, you certainly wouldn’t put the patient in the driver’s seat. The symptoms described don’t fit together with the woman then just bouncing up and demanding her money. And finally, only the one paper originally had the story, and all subsequent versions are pretty much distillations of that same story. Nobody else seems to have actually seen this happen.
