Curse you all for getting me sucked into this show!
I was a little surprised that Kwame wasn’t as canny as I’d thought. He didn’t, after all, choose Omarosa, so much as he had the choiced forced on him by dint of getting the last pick; picking her early on could have been brilliant strategy to minimize her resentment and sulkiness during the final task. But apparently either Kwame wasn’t quick enough to make this call, or he wasn’t mean enough to admit to it.
I was also surprised that the rules apparently didn’t forbid the firing of O: I was sure that’s why she stayed on the team. Even so, I guess you can argue that a good leader knows when to break the rules.
No, and they didn’t really explain the breakfast screw-up thing either, though Assorama was involved in that one somehow, so that may explain it. Troy may have been given a pass on some of his ball dropping in light of Assorama outright lying.
I agree that if Kwame had sent Assorama to her room, he would have won. Bill did a good job managing, but his hands-on micromanagement is the kind of thing that could give him a heart attack at 40. Especially on a multi-hundreds-of-millions construction project.
Assorama . . . my God, there are just no words. She’s basically rendered herself unemployable. “Let’s see, it says here that you lied to your superiors to avoid work, lied again to shift the blame to someone else, and did this all on national television.” What a moron.
Bill chose the Chicago project because he is an absolute star here. They had the live shoot from Mike Ditka’s bar and they were cutting to them in promos the whole night. He probably knows everyone in the city; it will be much easier for him to get things done here. We are, after all, proud of our corruption. If Bill knows the Mayor then he can expect to get every permit for building that he will ever need.
Did anyone notice that on the “live” show it was very wet outside when Bill got into his car? It wasn’t raining near NY last night. Maybe the show was live the night before?
In the boardroom they had to play up the drama for TV, and say “this is a really hard decision” a lot, but really it was very obvious that Bill was vastly superior during this task. About the only criticism they could say about Bill was that he seemed “ruffled under the feathers”, or that he was micro-managing too much, or physically running around making sure things were taken care of. But that’s exactly what you would want in this situation. Although he was delegating some responsibilities to others, they are basically a volunteer staff. He simply can’t blindly trust that they will complete every task for him perfectly, because it’s not their careers on the line (they’ve already been fired).
And others on this thread are mentioning the fact that Bill won’t really be making the big decisions regarding the new Trump building in Chicago, and that he will be heavily supervised. Folks, that’s the whole idea. He’s going to be Trump’s Apprentice. Get it? He’s going to spend the year learning the craft from a master. Being supervised and getting advice from Trump and his experienced executives will be a much greater prize than simply being given power over a project.
OK, so what is the cool, cutting-edge jacket that upwardly-mobile golf tournament organizers are wearing these days?
And yes, I admit, I join you all in my secret love for Carolyn.
But he did choose Omarosa; got her with the second pick. He picked Heidi last.
And also a comment on the Chicago building project: The way I interpreted it, Bill’s responsibility wouldn’t be for the construction of the building, but rather for leasing/selling the available space to prospective tenants. Which wouldn’t require so much specialized contruction knowledge, other than perhaps the limitations on reconfiguring available floorspace to meet the desires of prospective tenants.
The final kiss of death for Osaroma was her backstabbing a brother on national TV. The black community might readily forgive her incompetence prior to this point, but doing in Kwame so Bill could win makes her actions unforgivable for many.
Re: Bill’s tenure: I’ve heard it said several times that the winner would get to work for Trump “for at least one year.” I’m also guessing Trump makes it known to his top execs in Chicago that he expects full cooperation with Bill and that a highly talented support structure already exists to virtually ensure he succeeds.
Bill will live a golden life, as will Kwame.
A last thought: Does anyone think that, prior to last night, Kwame might have been attracted to Osaroma–someone he’d like to nail?
I agree, and I think Trump was leaning towards Bill from the beginning-- he gave Bill first pick of team members by fiat, which allowed Bill to avoid Omarosa. OTOH, I agree with Carolyn that he gave Kwame the easier task, which Kwame still managed to screw up.
However, it is quite demoralizing when your boss doesn’t trust you to complete the assigned task and asks you fifteen times if you know what to do. A normally likable guy could become a hated annoyance as a boss if this behavior is his normal M.O. I know that sooner or later I’d lose my temper and tell him to get off my ass. That said, I think if he had Kwame’s team, he’d still have succeeded, because some people DO need that much supervision. In real life, though, you can fire incompetent people, and choosing your employees isn’t an identical process to choosing dodge ball teams in gym class.
I realize that golf is not known for its scintillating fashion choices, but my god, Bill was hard to look at, between that nervous, vulpine smile, and hideous tan windbreaker. It didn’t help enhance his overall appearance. He looked freaked out and scary, and I like Bill. If last night was any indication of how Bill handles stress, I worry for his future health, seriously.
And yes, I admit, I join you all in my secret love for Carolyn.

Nope. When he picked, there were three candidates left: Heidi, Katrina, and Omarosa.
If he’d chosen Heidi, that would’ve left Bill choosing either Katrina or Omarosa. Wanna lay a wager on which one he would’ve chosen? My bet is on Katrina, leaving Kwame with a sulky Omarosa who got picked last and who might try to take petty vengeance on him for that insult.

In other words, no matter which of the three he picked, he was going to end up with Omarosa. His only real choice was whether to have her be the last person picked or not.
Of course, he didn’t show this logic in the boardroom, so maybe he was just being stupid.
Okay, another question: during the golf tournament, they mentioned the leaves just beginning to turn. It definitely looked like October there. So did the entire rest of the show finish filming in October, and the contestants have been keeping mum about it ever since?
Yes, the whole thing was filmed last fall, and everyone signed confidentiality agreements out the wazoo. (I’ve heard $5M as the amount someone would be sued for if he or she spilled the beans, but don’t remember where I heard this.)
Also, regarding their keeping mum about the show’s goings-on, I thought I heard reference last night to all the contestants having signed a non-disclosure agreement that carried penalties in the millions if they violated it. And they weren’t allowed to reveal they had been fired until after the episode in which they were fired aired. This is why they began to appear on morning talk shows after they were canned by the show, even though they were actually fired up to months before.
Was anyone else surprised at what Bill said before he won – something about winning this job being the start of “generational wealth”?
I don’t know why that was a shock, but it was.
Is it really all about the money? He didn’t say anything about job satisfaction or doing something that would make his mark, something that would last, maybe even improve the human condition.
Really? Cool! After last week’s episode I was convinced this was what he was thinking; after last night’s, I thought I was totally wrong.
So would it have made a difference, you think, if he’d explained choosing Omarosa like this? Did Trump really not realize that this is why he chose her when he did (I figure if I’m business-savvy enough to understand Kwame’s thoughts, Trump certainly is)? Or did they just edit it out because the game dynamic is too confusing for a reality show?
And thanks for the info on when it was shot: I’d figured they’d been shooting the show this year, airing episodes a couple weeks after they’d occurred. Shows what I know about reality TV.
In a nutshell, it explained Trump to me. I’m horrible at analogies, but I’ll try. Take Carl Lewis, for example (big huge former track star). He’s a raging egomaniac and beyond arrogant, but that part of him didn’t take center stage when he was in his glory because he was setting world record after world record – the public knew him more for what he was great at than his personality. In The Donald’s case, the general public (me, for example) knew him for his arrogant persona but didn’t know anything about why he was successful. He showed his stuff, and I have a new perspective. I think he was real, I think he was in his element, and I think he may have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he demonstrated why he continues to be successful.
I respectfully disagree. I think it’s about acheiving and a sense of accomplishment (driven by a colossal but charming and intelligently employed ego) with Trump.
I think money and opulence are just the way he keeps score. The man is a genius at getting things done.
Don’t they usually hose down the streets for car commercials? I would imagine they’d do the same thing for this show’s Car Glory Shot! Makes the car reflect in the pavement. And gets rid of all that nasty debris.
