April Annoyances (mini-rants)

When my platelet count was hovering around basement levels, acetaminophen was the only pain reliever I could take since it *wouldn’t *interfere with my blood clotting.

That’s what I thought, too. I assumed that it was a mis-spelling of mandolin until I saw your post and googled on mandoline.

Acetaminophen is a pain reliever but isn’t anti-inflammatory. That’s why it isn’t an NSAID.

Thirded. And I actually have a couple that I regularly use. Without serious injury so far.

Let’s not talk about table saws however.

Fucking Safeway home delivery.
On Thursday My Beloved tells me that we don’t have to arrange for a ride to go grocery shopping because she used safeway.com and groceries were paid for and would be delivered Friday between 9am and noon. Well, I get home-no groceries. They rescheduled the delivery for Saturday, so I volunteer to stay home. And wait.
And wait. And call(“We’re sorry, but we can’t seem to contact the driver-but we left a message for him to call you-hope things work out.”). And wait. And call(“ditto”). This goes on until the end of their delivery period…which is 10 fucking 30 fucking pm.
Sunday-second verse, same as the first. By 4 pm, we are still without food, safeway.con still has it’s head up it’s ass, and they offer us one of two choices-either another redelivery attempt Monday(today) between 9am and noon, or a recredit to our credit card. My Beloved was about to take the credit refund so that we could arrange a ride and get some food in the house, when I wisely stepped in and asked, “And how long would it take for this recredit to show on our card?”
“Five to seven business days.”

Ever want to punch a cellphone?

wow…one of the few things they get right in the UK is grocery delivery. They give you a one hour time window and in 11 years, they’ve been late a grand total of once!

Can the groceries just be arranged for pickup? You could either just do a round trip ride that way (more appealing to the person giving the ride, no need to wait for you to shop), or see if the person who would give you the ride wants to just do the pickup and delivery for you. I guess there’s no Peapod in your area?

We used them twice before with no problem. No charge for the first delivery, and only $3.95 from then on. It was their callous attitude that made me so mad this time-they didn’t seem concerned at the end of the second day that our groceries hadn’t been delivered and that they couldn’t get a hold of their driver, and their offer at the end of the third day to cancel our order and return our money to us…in five to seven business days! It sure as hell didn’t take them five to seven business days to grab that money out of our account.

I once shaved part of my thumb off with a mandoline. Then again, I’m well known for my kitchen incidents. Sadly, I’m the only one in the house who can cook anything other than eggs.

Incidentally, do not attempt to use a mandoline if you’ve been up all night and are bleary eyed from being vomited on by a kid for a few hours. Also, do not attempt to chop chocolate with a brand new knife if you’ve got shingles in your eye - kinda messes with your depth perception and you can lose part of a pinkie. Not that I’d know that from personal experience or anything. Honest.

Yeah, in your case a manager should have been making the run him or herself as soon as they hung up with you.

My apartment has been invaded by teeny tiny ants that congregate around the sink. I poured myself a refreshing beverage tonight only to find teeny tiny ants floating in it–they must have been in the glass. Yuk.

Not a rant, just sharing a bit of weirdness. I’ve bought a few items (hand-knitted scarves, gloves, and now an embellished hoodie) over the last few years that were hand-made in Nepal. As I was examining the hoodie I received today, I found a beautiful, long, shiny, wavy black hair woven in with some of the stitching. A couple years ago, I found a similar hair woven into a wool glove.

I just hope they’re falling out naturally as the women work, and not getting stuck in the sewing/knitting machines!

 I have found those little bait things to work very well. Contact Us | SC Johnson My cats leave them alone, they’re purported to ebe child proof, and they’re less toxic than trying to spray or leave other materials around your counters. So far, I’ve only needed to put one set down each Spring and I’m good for the year.

That’s what I wanted to say. Our little tiny cat can carry a kitty bed that is much bigger than her. It is funny watching her trip over a bed that’s longer than her legs. I know when its happening because of her fierce hunter yowls

My rant: I had a cop point a gun at me tonight. Actually, its not a rant, because he was checking up on the ferals, but it scared me so much that I learned that you don’t really pee your pants when you are that scared. Everything locks up and I probably won’t need to pee for the next couple of days.

(He was very nice about it once he saw my ID and knew that I was trapping them so I could move them. He told me that he was really fond of cats, and also worried that kids might get poisoned. Sadly, he scared the ferals into running away, so I stopped trapping for the night. I’m happy to know that the police are taking this seriously, but dang, that really scared me.)

Why on Earth would he take his weapon out?? Did you have one holstered that he could see or something? I can see wanting to be armed while doing TNR, people can get hostile. We’ve been having some issues in the last couple months with people coming to our brick-and-mortar locations, accusing us of stealing their cats and scaring the crap out of our Counselors. Yeah, dude. Check the leash laws. Animals at-large are for anyone to take. We also put them back!

just did my taxes, I made slightly less month (less overtime) but am getting way less back, in fact I am worried that next year I will have to pay in. :frowning: If I had used the standard deductions, I would have had to pay. that has never happened in 3 decades of paying income tax.

no changes to anything else happened, my withholding was the same, I had about the same in charitable contributions, still have taxes etc on my house.

Laughing with you, and then crying. I think you have forgotten that I live in the land of "shoot first, ask questions later. Texas also says that free roaming cats are fair game, I think it was the poison issue that had him upset. I’m not taking those cats back, they are now going to be barn cats. I’ve got most of the ones I think I was feeding (hard to tell, but as you know, the average adult cat eats a pound of kibble a week… I haven’t trapped the last 2 hard ones and have caught 2 more nice housecats.)

Its horrible that people are abusing your counselors. If the idiots would do the right thing and keep their cats inside where they are safe, they wouldn’t have to get so upset and scare people. Keep your cats inside, folks. Its safer for the cats, and you won’t need to worry about people like us scooping them up off the street.

I don’t know what sort of meddlesome nanny-state fuckface decided that in this country ibuprofen is some super dangerous drug that needs to be carefully regulated, but I hope the individuals responsible develop crippling arthritis.

I really try to avoid obnoxious jingoism but I can walk into Walgreens and buy a fucking 1000-count bottle of ibuprofen for $20. I’m not spending half my goddamn paycheck on fucking blister packs of 25-counts of ibuprofen in your shitty-ass pharmacies here. I can go and buy a 100-count bottle of iron supplements without issue and that’s far more likely to kill me than fucking ibuprofen.

Also, fuck the VA, because if the shitty VA doc would just renew my goddamn prescription I wouldn’t be bothering with ibuprofen in the first place.

Also, fuck my stupid gimpy painful foot that causes these problems in the first place.

Why would someone crowdfund that? The more money it has, the less effective the money is.

My favorite news app in Windows 8 – News Bento – stopped updating recently. Just found out that the developers have discontinued support for it.
