April Fool's Day on NPR

Did anyone else catch the hoax story on All Things Considered tonight?

My favorite was the guy from People are People, Too, but the Four Legged League was pretty clever.

From previous years, I really remember the one about selling Arizona to Canada so they could have a warm place to visit.

Heh. I have to wonder if this was inspired by SNL, considering that Clinton (Hammond) mentioned pet health care in the Buddy’s funeral sketch, and the name on the mockup ID card is Mr. Bojangles, which is also the name of one of the dogs from “Dog Show.”

A hoax? A HOAX! You’re telling me that the most enriching social program of the century is nothing but a pallid April Fool’ s Day joke! But my heart swelled with pride to think I lived in a country that would embark on such a bold policy. My eyes teared up when I realized that my poor aged mother would no longer be forced to share her valium with her beloved, but terminally anxious, doggie-dog. And that it would be administered in such a democratic, non-speciesist manner–our scaly friends, our feathered friends, even our wet friends–as equally included as our furry friends–a model for human relations if ever I have seen one. And now, to see it all disappear admist the laughter of left-winged liberal intelligensia, ahhh, the pain, the pain. . . .
