Arcadeland? Arcadeworld? What's that band called?

Flipping through stations, I heard some music I foud at least prima facie interesting. I wanted to follow up by listening to clips online, but now I’ve forgotten exactly what the band was named.

The DJ said something like “arcadeland” or “arcadeworld.” The music was either eighties or, urm, “eighties revival” if you know what I mean…

I don’t know how to describe the music exactly. I do recall that it was one of thsoe where the male lead sings for the most part in sort of a weak high pitched voice. I think.

The song was being played on KROQ (LA’s general “alternative” “rock” station.) So they can’t be that obscure, though the DJ made a comment to the effect that they are relatively obscure.

Sounding familiar to anyone?

Were there lines like "Every time you close your eyes (lies lies) or “I went on with the power out?”

If so, it was Arcade Fire.

Arcade Fire just played at the KROQ Inland Invasion tour 9/17. I probably wouldn’t recognize them on the radion, but in person they rocked. And I loved the 2 violoinists. I think they are from Montreal???

Yes, they are from Montreal and yes, their live show is incredible. I’ve seen them twice and would drop everything in a minute to see them again. Really good.

Website.

Could it be the Duran Duran splinter group “Arcadia” with their quasi-hit song “Election Day”?

quasi?

QUASI!?

WTF?

Arcadia was great!

Seriously, Duran Duran split into two bands in 1985: Arcadia and Powers Station. Arcadia put out one album and are a somewhat obscure 80’s band since Duran Duran was reformed with a slightly different cast about a year later.
