Archangel

For some reason, I’ve had ‘Archangel’ in my head. I know that there is a city known in English by that name, in Russia, but that doesn’t seem to be what’s lurking in the back of my mind. Was Archangel a spy’s codename, either in real life, or in fiction? Does the city have something to do with the Cold War? Or WWII? I’m getting a Tom Clancy vibe…

Is that your activation word? Are you a or THE Manchurian candidate?

Well - there is this

Or there is an ancient pub in Frome, England (rhymes with broom). http://www.archangelfrome.com/

There was a decent novel and made-for-TV movie by that name: Archangel (Harris novel) - Wikipedia

The Arctic Convoys went mostly to Archangel or Murmansk.

One of my ancestors was said to have come from Archangel. No doubt many did: it’s a big port.

That rings a bell.

I’d go further and say that the novel is actually pretty good, as indeed all the Robert Harris books I’ve read have been.

In Apocalypse Now, in one of Willard’s voice-overs he mentions an ‘operation Archangel’ that Colonel Kurtz ran.

That also rings a bell.

In the Dresden Files series Archangel was the location of a White Council stronghold that was overrun by the Red Court…

it was the code name of one of the main characters in the TV show “Airwolf”…he usually dressed all in white and wore an eye patch.
