Nope.
The gang was all alive and together at the end of last season.
The mystery of how/why Archer ended up flipping burgers for 2 months was explained within the episode itself.

SHITSNACKS! I was all ready for this and totally forgot about it. Any reruns in the near future?
IMDb lists Jan 20 at 12:30 AM EST.
Well, at least they make it convenient. Thanks!
Probably would have helped if I’d ever seen an episode of Bob’s Burgers but I knew enough understand the joke right away so that was fine.
Didn’t seem quite as dense with the jokes as I expect but still very glad it is back.
(Paraphrasing)
“KGB? Are you sure its not the Gay GB”
Wow, that Bob’s Burgers plot was amazing. I will often sit there and say to myself “pretend this Character X is actually Similar Character Y”, so have the entirety of Bob’s Burgers be a 2 month amnesia-induced episode of Archer is hilarious.
Well, almost. Remember Ray got crippled because Archer, in an enormous display of douche-baggery, cut the Shuttle’s autopilot at the last second so he could still be the hero and land it himself (spoiler: He turned what would have been a perfect, routine landing into a near disastrous crash!)
I didn’t like the episode at all.
I’m trying to figure out why I didn’t like it and can only come with how something was missing, like it was rushed together by new writers, … or something.
It also seemed like the old cohesiveness was missing and the characters seemed flat.
Anyway, looking forward to next Thursday.
I really liked it.
Mallory: “I am going to have seaweed wrap”
Ray: “I didn’t know they made sushi with dried clam.”
“Alive and together” not “alive and well” if you check my post.
OTOH, with the massive amounts of therapy and psychotropic drugs they all need, I don’t think you could ever say any of them were ever “well” in any sense of the word.
Actually, Ray’s always been portrayed as reasonably stable, especially compared to the rest of ISIS.
After something like that, I don’t get why Ray doesn’t kill Archer. It’s just a fraction over the top for me.
Well hell, in the first season it seemed like Archer would accidentally shoot Cyril or another ISIS agent every week!
BANG!
“Damn it Archer!”
“Sorry…”
Archer: This gun has plenty of stopping power!
BANG!
Brett: God damn it, Archer!
Archer: See that? He was putting on his pants and I stopped him!
KGB agent: we are nut rubbers.
Archer: Well ok, you can rub them.
2nd agent: he means we are ‘not robbers!’
Close. Cyril was the one making the landing until Archer pushed him out of the way.
After finally getting a chance to see this episode I’ll say that I really liked it. But, why hasn’t Ray put a bullet in the back of Archer’s head?
You could have mentioned it’s voiced by the same actor! I will now watch it.
Despite the agency being called ISIS, the show is based in Greco-Roman myth. Archer is Dionysus, son of Semele, who was bewitched by Hera to forget who her child’s father was (sound familar?) God of wine/intoxication, also called the god that comes. Known for frolicking with nymph(o)s.
So, what happens when you mess with Dionysus? A bunch of crazy chicks show up to kill you. Archer’s maenads are Cheryl, Pam, Lana, even Katya - Ray wouldn’t last a day, and the Barry storyline will end with the maenads taking him out once he physically hurts Archer, trust me.
