Before using the word “persecution,” ANYONE should ask, what would REAL martyrs to my cause think of my claims?"
I have to think that, as Jan Hus was being burned at the stake, he’d have LAUGHED at modern self-styled heretics who think they’re oppressed.
I also think that, as St. Peter was being crucified upside-down, he’d have given ANYTHING to live in a nation where the worst thing Christians suffer is snide jokes from the likes of Bill Maher.
In modern America, NOBODY is suffering anything worth calling persecution.
I seem to recall that, some time back, when Scientologists claimed the German government was persecuting them, Jon Steart (who is Jewish) said something like, “Believe me, when the German government persecutes you, you’ll KNOW it.”
Same principle applies. If you’re alive, in one piece, allowed to attend worship services (or not), are able to go where you want, and are not facing any priosn time for your activites, I have a hard time seeing where you’re being persecuted.
Today, a bunch of liberal secular atheists in Indiana demanded that Christians be excluded from their prom, because, while bizarrely insisting they “love” them, the gay crusade can’t even stand the sight of Christians and insists on going out of their way to subjugate them in all aspects of law and society. More persecution!
While I agree that it is silly to claim that Christians in the US are persecuted and have yet in this thread to see a single compelling reason to change my mind, listing an example of Christians discriminating against others doesn’t prove that they’re not persecuted.
Lots of people belonging to historically discriminated against groups are very capable of persecuting others.
For example, Asian Americans are perfectly capable of discriminating against Hispanics, Hispanics are very capable of discriminating against African-Americans, African-Americans are very capable of discriminating against Muslims and Muslims are certainly capable of discriminating against gays.
None of that means those groups can’t claim they face some degree of discrimination and prejudice.
