Are KTM bikes any good? (Particularly the adventure bikes)

I’ve never really been into motorcycles, but I saw a KTM adventure bike the other day (like this ) that looked like it was ready to ride across Africa. Also I like the looks of their Duke street bike. It doesn’t have a bunch of plastic cowling like a traditional crotch rocket, which I like.

Does anyone have any experience with KTM? 990cc is probably pretty big for a first bike, but I could see myself getting one, maybe after learning on a smaller bike.

The Duke is pretty nice. No way in hell should you get one as your first bike (unless you want it to be your last bike), but it would make a good bike after a year or two once you know what you are doing.
