I can’t believe this has to be suggested to someone with a member start date of april of this year…but you seriously sound like you need a break from the boards.
We all get that you’re unhappy with your life right now, but I would encourage you to take some time away from here and put some effort into finding professional help that works for you. Not every therapist is right for every person, you have to try out a few and find one that you click with. I didn’t like the first couple I went to, it’s no big you move on.
If you think you’re the only one around here that has dealt with thoughts of suicide, severe depression, retirement anxiety or any other of your worries you are seriously mistaken. The suggestions to get help are not made from a position of ignorance.
Oh, cut the crap, Daniel. He was implying that I was being pretentious for using a word that is slightly unusual like “bootless”. He was implying that I was showing off. It was pure sarcasm, not a compliment, and that is what I told the person who said I did not take “compliments” well.

Valteron, one thing about this board is people around here love the English language and the range of words it gives us to choose from. I’m rather fond of “bootless”, myself. Whether you choose to believe it or not is up to you, but from what I’ve seen of Spectre of Pithecanthropus, I really do believe he was trying to pay you a compliment. Around here, it’s a perfectly reasonable response.
Here’s another bit of information. You say you’re too stupid to post a link. From what I’ve seen of you, I have a hard time believing that. (To make it clear, I’m not insulting you or calling you a liar; if anything, I’m trying to compliment you. Next time you reply to a thread by clicking on the button marked “Post Reply”, tak a look at the row of icons (pictures) below where the boxes marked [Font] and [size]. Under the arrow in the Size box there’s an icon with what’s supposed to be a globe and a chain. It’s the the 5th from the right if you prefer to count. If you click on that icon, it will pull up a box which asks you what you want the text of your link to contain, then another box asking you for the website you want to link to. Since I hate retyping long hyperlinks, especially the ones we use to link to threads around here, I usually just copy and paste the website from another window. I could do it manually, but it’s not worth the hassle.
Somebody needs to find their happy place.

I’ve started and deleted several replies to this (and the other) thread. It’s starting to feel like DNFTT territory. Isn’t the same thing happening in this thread as in the previous one? Isn’t it time to move on?
Silly man. He used the words “stature” and “immeasurably” in his post. These are words that would not be used by someone mocking you for being pretentious. If he wanted to use words that themselves mocked pretention, he could have said, “‘Struth, good sirrah, your eminence is distended beyond all antecedent transpirations by your application of the term ‘bootless’!”
This is a good place to practice looking sheepish while you apologize.

How on earth could you possibly know what he was implying, or what he was intending. Several people have weighed in to say that ,yes, as a matter of fact they did think he was paying you a compliment, which is how I read the comment as well. Why do you think you are better qualified to interpret his comment than the rest of us?
As far as I can tell, you take offense when none may have been meant, and then you insist on your interpretation as the correct one after people point out a possible alternate intent. And you are rude in your insistence that you are right (i.e., “cut the crap, Daniel”).
These are all unattactive behaviors. I don’t think you need to go to a psychologist to figure out that your relations with others may be significantly improved by stopping them. You are not required to bring an attitude of unrelenting bitter criticism to your judgment of yourself, the friendly woman in art class who had the temerity to bring her supplies in a macrame bag, or the members of this Board. So you might want to dial down the hostility, m’kay?

No, but it means he’s more likely to keep squabbling and quarreling and find himself unable to resist coughing up another $15 to renew, year after year, as we become his addiction.

It really doesn’t matter. He did not call you a liar. He may have thought it. He may have meant it. He did not say it.
Eh, close enough. No need to bandy technicalities – it was my stated opinion that Valteron was probably not telling the truth, so it’s not unreasonable for him to say I was calling him a liar.
If it helps (and I expect it won’t), I wasn’t saying I didn’t believe him in an attempt to insult him. Rather, the post of his that I was replying to read to me more like an attempt to get people to stop recommending he see a doctor than honest exposition. If that was/is the case, I hope he’ll reconsider and see that people are recommending seeing a doctor for his sake and not as an insult. Considering how defensive and angry he’s been here, it’s hard for me to believe that he’s exhausted the capabilities of modern medicine, although maybe he just hasn’t found a good doctor.
