Boy, Skipmagic is really a piece of work. He makes me laugh. First, he had to change the title of my thread about opera singers for the sake of political correctness.
Now, he has closed the thread because I dared to depart a little from the main subject in a couple of my posts after people alleged that I hate fat people.
Everyone knows that threads run all over the place on these message boards, and are usually tolerated unless the moderator has it in for the creator of the thread.
You were just WAITING for the flimsiest excuse to shut down my thread, weren’t you Skip?
Can’t you just see Skipmagic dressed like a French Gendarme like Claude Raines in Casablanca, declaring: “I am shocked, yes shocked, to find out there has been a departure from the original subject in an SDMB thread. I must close it down immediately!”
I have learned not to let the self-righteous “disciplinary measures” of the moderators like Skip and Tomndebb bother me. If they banned me, it would probably be a huge favour because then I would no longer waste time on SDMB arguing with a bunch of losers. You see, I have a secret weapon that I suspect most of the moderators and frequent posters on SDMB do not have. It is called a life. Try getting one.
Hell, I’d thought he’d already been banned. I was surprised as hell when he posted the opera singer thread…he’d been pretty quiet for a while. Was it incarceration, hospitalization or not being able to pay for your internet connection, Valteron?
The thing to remember is, there are a lot of fat people on this board who get offended when you make fun of fat people. People are just sensitive about the topic.
Hmmm, I wonder, should we maybe start writing titles for every single one of our posts?
Er, no, I don’t think I will; way too pretentious.
Meanwhile, originally I hadn’t paid any attention to the thread in question, since the subject frankly sounded silly and intenionally inflammatory, but after seeing V once again whining about those big meanie mods, I decided to check it out. In the last post, Skipmagic sez:
Seems to me it the OP pretty much was purely on a diatribe about fat people, and I don’t recall that generally being considered fit Cafe Society material, so it strikes me as a fair cop. ‘Fraid I can’t get on the Mod-hatin’ bandwagon on this one. Sorry.
I think that putting aside the thread title, it is a CS (or GQ) thread. A lot of the big opera stars are overweight, and, of course, I know when I think of an opera soprano, I think of a three hundred pound Brunhilda with the viking horns. We even have the saying, from opera “It’s not over till the fat lady sings”. And, of course, we don’t see this in a lot of other genres of music (well, maybe the blues/soul)
So it seems like the question of why it’s ok to be fat and be an opera singer, while it’s not so ok in other genres of music or performance (because even if you restrict it to the stage, the fat actor usually isn’t the romantic lead, except in opera), and why there’s that perception that opera singers are “supposed” to be fat, is a legitimate question.
I wonder what you would have done if someone had opened up the same thread substituting “opera singer” with “difficult hotel guest” and “fat” with “gay?”
