They seem less than worthless considering they never take into account the trades that teams always make to move around. We talk about who should trade up or down but has there ever been a mock draft on paper that actually moves teams around based on assumed trades? Seems like just an excuse to talk/create drama about the NFL between the Combine and OTAs.
Dammit! Can a mod move this to the Game Room please?
Every now and then a mock draft will project a trade, but it’s rare for the simple reason that any one specific trade is extremely unlikely to occur. I do remember nfldraftcountdown projecting the Eli/Rivers trade on the morning of the draft, many years ago.
Anyway, the mocks from a few weeks out or more are preposterously inaccurate. The ones from nearest to the draft usually do a pretty good job mapping out the first 10 picks or so, though the top of this year’s draft seems *much *harder to predict.
Yeah, pretty much. But it’s fun, and it’s also a way to talk about the draft and the offseason in general, in an entertaining way. Read some mock drafts, and you become acquainted with the draft pool, if you weren’t already. Learn something about the incoming players, enjoy watching the real draft more, etc.
Not worth much. About as accurate as most idiots’ March brackets after a 3 seed loses in the first round. Team needs beyond the local market are usually wrong. I don’t read them and haven’t ever made one.
They can be a useful format to learn about prospects, but I prefer big boards.
And no matter what, ignore anything you read on Bleacher Report.
The (Chicago) Tribune offered a mock draft 2.0 last year too, the round-one draft picks for all 32 teams. It got 27 of them wrong. Blanket coverage of nothing — the NFL draft by Michael Miner.
