I think it would be fun to do a Mock NFL Draft on the board. I’d like to try it where everybody who wants to can select a couple or three teams and do their picks. So, at this point, just sign up and tell me what teams you’d like to handle, and when we get enough people, we can start. I’ll give out details later, but, in general, I’m hoping to do a combination live/proxy draft, so that things don’t drag out waiting for a team. If this interests you at all, just post what teams you’d like and once we get enough people, we can start.
Hamlet - Green Bay Packers and one or two other teams that no one else wants to do.
Sorry I missed the other thread. I have no shame, so I’ll bump this till the cows come home, and I may just end up doing 20 of the teams myself, but such is life.
Edit: I don’t know enough about the other teams to really make insightful or meaningful picks, but I’ll pick up an extra or two at the end if there are any. I can do some research.
I’ll do the Bears on the odd chance that it goes 3 rounds deep. Assuming it doesn’t get that deep I’m happy to volunteer to do any of the lesser supported teams here on the dope.
I’ll take the Miami Dolphins if there isn’t a hometown fan around just because it’ll be fun to pretend to be Bill Parcells. In the same vein I’ll also call dibs on the Seattle Seahawks for the bizarre Parcells - Pete Carroll symmetry. If I really want to run with that theme I’ll take the Patriots too.
I’m 90% sure there aren’t any active 'Hawks or 'Phins fans in these parts so I think I’m safe there. I know there are some Pats fans around but I’m not sure any are big offseason participants so we’ll make that one tentative.
If no one wants the Texans, I’ll take them. (All I’ll be doing is cribbing from a few of the more intelligent beat writers anyway.) Don’t feel too comfortable about taking on any other teams, but I will if absolutely needed.
When will the mock draft be? And will there be trading allowed?

I’ll fill in the rest as more people sign up and the teams nobody really wants show up more.
I’m hoping to get enough people signed up tonight and tomorrow to get started this weekend. Trading will not only be allowed, but encouraged. But I retain the right to veto any incredibly stupid trades.
Friday night, I’ll post the draft order, complete “owner” list, and any other rules I think are necessary. I anticipate having the draft start Saturday at noon. Each team will be given a couple hours to select, but I’m hoping that “owners” will PM me proxy lists of guys they want in the order they want them selected, so if anyone is unavailable to pick themselves, I can do it by proxy. More details later.
ETA: For anyone who is willing to take more than one team and you want to start researching now, just pick an unpicked team and let me know who it is. That way you can check out that teams’ draft needs and look everything over before getting it thrown at you. For example, I will be starting to research the Jaguars tonight.
I know “The Chart” isn’t particularly popular around here, but we may want to use it to make sure trades are in line with what would happen in the real world.
I’ll take the Bucs, too, if nobody else wants them.
This will be the first NFL offseason I’ve ever actively paid attention to in my life, so with the caveat that I have very little idea what I’m doing, I’ll pitch my hat into the ring and take the Chargers.
I know our situation, what (I think) we need, and our free agency moves thus far, but my entire understanding of draft/trade rules and procedures comes from Franchise Mode in Madden. Still, what better motivation to get off my rear and do some actual research than to throw down with the ignorance-fightin’-est football fans I know?
Here is the HailRedskins mock draft database. Be sure to note, however, that most of these are made by average fans ranging from ignorant to idiotic to derivative. It will at least give you an idea of what’s on the map. Look for the ones marked “Pro” for at least some good judgment, even if they have a poor idea of what any given team’s real needs are.
A better resource are big boards, basically listing prospects by perceived value and ability. Look for ones compiled by former pro scouts or by prominent analysts for big-name media companies. CBS Sports has a good one, as does Draft Tek. A Google search for “2010 nfl draft big board” or something similar will produce more results.
If you like, you can grab a team and do it by proxy, giving me a list of your targets for each round. If you’re unavailable or someone on your list is gone/better rated, I can fill in the blanks. Hell, if you have email, we can do it that way too.
