Are NRA concealed carry licenses a nationwide license?

Spured by another almost related thread I was wondering, would a concealed carry license/permit issued in CT be legit nationwide? Arizona has very lax gun laws, CT has very stringnet gun laws…Whats the Dope?

My wife and I took a gun control course in AZ awhile ago (8 years) and did not get our concealed permits. We live full time in CT, so we had to declare the guns we own when we moved back here, and take a concealed carry class to get a license to have the guns. (We do not carry concealed weapons, it is just what the law requires we have to own the guns)

What I’m wondering is if we were to move to a different state would the CCL be honored, or would we need to declare we were bringing them into the state if we were making a permanent move?

Nope. Not all states have CCLs. I recall some discussion here in Minnesota about allowing other states’ CCLs to be allowed, but I beleive it was nixed (One of the very few things about Minnesota’s CCL law that was nixed). I’ll try to scare up a cite for you.

The NRA website has a list of states and the status of their reciprocity laws.

They are also pushing for a national reciprocity bill that would make any CCL valid in any state that grants them.

One minor point - you do know that the NRA does not grant CCLs right? They do run training courses which several states require for a CCL, but it is the state that grants the permits.

On preview, I see akennet listed the other page, check out this map.

Yes I do realize this, our CCL is from the state of CT. Thanks for the cites…
