My dad was in Tennessee pawn shop and the owner obviously sold guns and whatnot. The gun owner stated that in Tenn. it is legal to cross into any of the 8 states connected to Tenn. with your firearm as long as you have a legal carry and conceal permit in Tenn.
How true is this?
Also to add: If you have a legal carry permit for Virginia, is it legal in any of the Carolina States?
Some pretty wierd shit. South Dakota, one of my favorite destinations, honors my Minnesota CCW, but Minnesota does not honor theirs. Wyoming and North Dakota won’t honor mine, neither will Wisconsin or Iowa.
Wisconsin doesn’t honor any licenses, nor do they issue their own. Along with Illinois, it’s one of only two states remaining that do not allow legal concealed carry at all.
I never realized this when I worked Armored, or I might have asked my co-workers who lived in Wisconsin what kind of permit they had and from WHO, that it would be honored in Minnesota. I would have also asked my managment about what kind of permit the guys who drove the Wisconsin route had to have.
It also explains, or at least moreso, why one of my co-workers was fired after being busted carrying in a Wisconsin bar. (The man always was a bit tetched) I assume now that it was a Felony, which is why they had armed employees outside keeping him away from the front entrance when he came back to pick up his shit and return his uniforms.
Even weirder: Pennsylvania permits are not recognized in any surrounding state except for West Virginia, which is connected by a very small sliver all the way out west. Therefore, through careful planning, I can make it all the way to the West Coast states (but none touching the Pacific) via I-70, but any other route gets me in trouble. I cannot make it anywhere north of Pennsylvania, so New England is totally off limits. I can pack my stuff up in the trunk due to the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, but I dare not have it anywhere near me if I’m pulled over lest I end up in the pokey for it.
I am a retired loss control officer(security guard) was licensed to carry concealed on the job,but I always carry and haven’t had law enforcement in other states give me any trouble when I have been asked about carrying a firearm. But I am an old coot and I do have my retired law enforcement card behind my dl. This just my experience, I won’t say this is universal but in most cases if you haven’t f%#cked up real bad most cops will scold you and make you unload and lock it in your trunk.
What ever happened to the Full Faith and Credit clause? I do not need to get a new marriage license crossing into a different state with my wife (well…if I was still married anyway). I do not need to go take a drivers exam in every state.
If you have a gun in your trunk and Illinois is in your way you just have to find a way around the state (assuming you do not want to take any chances getting pulled over)?
No, if you have a gun in your trunk you can go through Illinois via the provisions of the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986. God help you if it’s loaded and/or in the car with you, though. The FOPA allows you to travel through a state as long as you do not make any unnecessarily long stops. You can stop and eat, get a cup of coffee, get gas, whatever, but you can’t stay a few days to check out the local scene.
