Are the Dems and media becoming over-invested in Trump/Russia?

ED #60
You lost me on that one.

FNS did a segment on Trump’s former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn simultaneously working for Trump’s campaign, and also being paid for work on behalf of the Turkish government.

Part of the concern expressed was, though Turkey may be deemed an ally, it’s been politically rocky there lately, and the trend seems to be going in the wrong direction.

Further concern arises from inadequate disclosure.

One reason the Russia CT is so useful for the Democratic media establishment is that it lets them blame Putin for being wiped out in the election, instead of doing any sort of introspection.

That’s a good point, except that it isn’t true. So, I guess it is a terrible point.

Nobody on the Democratic side (minus maybe a few wingnuts) thinks that Putin literally stole the election. The Democratic side is concerned that Russia feels a free hand to intervene in our elections with the intent to elect Trump. You know goddamn well that if the Chinese intervened to elect Clinton, Republicans would be popping a gasket.

I think the Benghazi “scandal” shows us that it’s possible to keep pushing a non-story and still succeed in smearing the opponent, without any backlash. Seven investigations, no evidence of wrongdoing, but Republicans still cite it as a reason for distrusting Hillary.

The liberal media is obsessed with the Russia CT and blaming Russia for stealing DNC e-mails and tricking the electorate to vote Trump, as if it should’ve even been close enough for that to matter in the first place. I can’t think of any recent decision by the Dems that show they’re interested in being the party of the people instead of corporate interests, or that they have a real plan going forward instead of praying the Trump admin implodes. These could be unrelated trends, but doesn’t seem like much of a leap. Imagine if supposedly left media like MSNBC or CNN were hammering the Democrats on these issues or pushing some sort of vision on healthcare, the topic everyone is worried about right now. Talk about UHC, how it works in other countries, dispel right wing talking points, anything but more Russian stories. Of course they won’t, they’re corporate hacks.

If the investigations end up fizzling what happens next? Who’s going to stop these kleptrocratic comic book villains from slash and burning and privatizing everything?

“Feels a free hand to intervene,” what a phrase. This mushy language obscured whatever distinction you were making. I didn’t say anything about literally stealing in the first place.

That’s one of those responses that makes me want to back slowly away from the thread, not making eye contact, with my hands out so that I can demonstrate that I am not a threat…

Morell said he had learned that the former officer, Christopher Steele, paid his key Russian sources, and interviewed them through intermediaries.

“On the question of the Trump campaign conspiring with the Russians here, there is smoke, but there is no fire, at all,” Morell said at an event sponsored by the Cipher Brief, an intelligence web site.

“There’s no little campfire, there’s no little candle, there’s no spark. And there’s a lot of people looking for it.”

I’m honestly not sure if “paid his key Russian sources, and interviewed them through intermediaries” helps or hurts the story’s reliability. Leaning hurts.

The thread demonstrates why it’s not either/or. I think the liberal media is getting out too far over its ski’s on this and the final truth insofar as it’s revealed will be a relative fizzle, already seems to be. But, each side now has a base which pretty much demands this kind of story about the other side, and those people won’t ever accept there’s no ‘Trump/Russia’ connection in any really nefarious or unusual way. So it won’t backfire with them. Several posters who seem to be members of the left base of the Democrats have brought up the Benghazi affair but without apparently any sense of irony. The WH and SD did apparently put PR over truth in blaming that attack on a video. They basically lied about that including Clinton. But it was a fairly moderate real Richter scale reading as a scandal. However the base of the GOP is not angry at right leaning media/talk radio/web for exaggerating it. Neither will the left’s base be angry at the liberal media for turning some real and disturbing facts about Trump people v Russia into a bigger ‘just about to break’ story that never actually does.

Ha another waste of time thread. This administration is a cesspool and needs to be cleaned. Stop spinning. You will not take away the stench of this election and it’s attachment to your philosophy. Good luck with that. Meanwhile we will keep digging until there has been more investment in this than, say, benghazi, at the very least.

Oh yeah. When you hear constant lying and prevarication, and see nests of corrupt practices, infecting the white house, that’s always the best time to lay off and give it a rest, and not "over-invest". Don’t want to look too hard and waste your time, when you could be listening to conservative talking points or something. YUP!!

I am very happy to see this kind of attitude from the left. Please continue. It is fun to watch, and it is (I know you will disagree) hugely damaging to your future electoral prospects.

Ha. “Liberals need to be nicer to me!”

You got to get a new approach. This thing is played to death. Even you must be sick of it by now.

Uh no. I expect rudeness, condescension and ignorant obnoxiousness from liberals, and I am rarely disappointed. The good thing is that these qualities are very obvious to non-kool aid-drinkers and turn people off, as we saw in the electoral results. And hopefully will continue to see.

So keep pushing the silly conspiracy theories. Please.

You aren’t distracting anyone with this nonsense. Blaming liberals for “drinking the kool aid.”?! It’s performance art. I’ll give it that.

You are in the worst era to be a conservative, if that’s what you are. The stench of 2016 will take a lifetime to dissipate. Stop worrying about how liberals treat you. Start thinking about your dignity, just for a start.

This would be the election where the majority of people voted for somebody else?

This would be the election that finds the Democratic party in worst shape since Reconstruction in terms of officeholders at the state and federal level. There’s a reason for that.

Over the last week, I heard three Republicans divert questions about Obama’s wiretapping with comments about Democratic investigations into Trump’s Russia connection.

It seem that the Republicans think that the Russian hoopla is a winner for them.

I agree.

When your house is on fire, that’s not a good time to wander around taking measurements for new drapes.

Yes, gerrymanding and voter ID laws.
