…Share/freeware banner ad blockers, specifically. I saw this mentioned at ZoneAlarm’s website, but it was for a version I have to pay for. This sure sounded like a good idea to me. Please don’t tell me I’m ruining the internet’s free content.
The one I use is called Ad-Erase. I’ve had no trouble with it.
While I would be the last to chastise you, I would humbly suggest that it might be somewhat uncouth to ask this question on such a site as this, which is itself giving away free content funded in part by banner ads.
Hehe. Yeah. :dubious:
Banner ads? Where?
Heh.
There’s a banner on the straight dope homepage.
Mozilla has a feature to block loading of images from any particular server. Just right-click on an image and choose “Block images from this server.” Pages you visit frequently tend to have the same servers distributing the banner ads. It also can block pop-up windows.
In addition to this, the new Mozilla Firebird browser has a very nice “Flash click to play.” All those annoying Flash ads just appear as a gray rectangle, which you can click if you really do want to see the Flash animation.
