MTV interviewed an Iraqi kid who listened to Death Metal. So I’d say it is probable. I’d doubt they’d have a web site or anything, though. I’d be hard to find any info on them.

Since Islamic countries tend to be very restrictive about the arts in general, and heavy metal music in particular, I’d be very surprised to find such a band in the Islamic world, especially one from a country as fundamentalist and oppressive as Iraq. (Recently, a group of teenagers in Morocco were jailed for merely listening to heavy metal, and Morocco is considered one of the more Western-friendly of Islamic nations!)

I couldn’t find information pointing to a single heavy metal band from the Arab World, although I did find two bands from nations that are predominantly Muslim:

  • Pentagram, from Turkey. Since there was already an American band named Pentagram, they had to change their name to “Mezarkabul”, which is the Turkish word for…“pentagram”. Go figure. :slight_smile:

  • Kekal, from Indonesia. Apparently they’re a “Christian black metal” band. Isn’t that a contradiction in terms???

Whatever else we might think about Iraq it is not a fundamentalist Islamic country. I can’t add anything to answer the OP.

This is not exactly about music, man.

I don´t know if you´re aware, cause CNN doesn´t show those things inside the US of A. Problem is, all over ther world there´s a strong Anti-American feeling due to Lil´ Bushy´s decision to play war games with Iraq.

Of course, no one is Saddam´s fan either (btw, it wasn´t Saddam who knocked down the Twin Towers; it was his political enemy Osama Bin Laden who did it), but we´re pretty aware of the harm that THE U.S. of A, and not only Saddam Insane, did to the people of a lot of Arab contries with the forced imbargo on arab sales of oil.

In fact, everybody but the americans know the straight dope about this ficticious war. But, as the poets say, ignorance is bliss, and so you americans can somehow be grateful to the distorted lies and censorship CNN and other networks are feeding you. But the truth is: to the eyes of the world, BUSH is the villain in this story.

Anyway.

All over the world, there´s been strong protest no only against war, but anti-american as well. Countries like Korea, Hong Kong, Brazil, Mozambique and a lot of others are virtually boycotting any american (and English) products. No Coca-Cola, no McDonald´s, nada, zip, niente.

And our other way of peaceful protesting is to annoy the hell out of the american ambassadors and consulates. So, we´re looking for Arab death metal bands to play it out loud, 24/7, in front of the USA Consulates and Embassys all over the world. Capice?
