Country and western, you mean?
Are there any monuments to General Sherman in the South?
No, but it’s not uncommon to carry a portrait of General Grant in one’s wallet.
Well, there is at least one that recognizes his good works. Its nice to be recognized for ones achievements I always say. Personally I’d draw the line at Boll Weevils myself. But seriously, I won’t be surprised if there was some monument to him somewhere. My google fu is weak today.
That’s interesting. I lived in the erstwhile Cassville for a year or so as a kid. Didn’t remember that monument.
And I’d agree that Lincoln was never loathed in the South (at least not after the war) in the same way Sherman was. Speaking of Cassville, when I lived there I remember having to memorize the Gettysburg Address for school. (3rd grade, Cass Elementary)
This is what I was wondering about. It’s remarkable; I’d think there would be more negative feelings, all things considered.
John Wilkes Booth seemed a little bitter.
I don’t remember where I read it, but somebody somewhere on the Internet had a great joke involving a monument to Sherman. It was an eternal flame shaped like the state of Georgia.
