Are there any stereotypes which you resemble/match?

I’m from Bangalore and I… sob work in IT.

Ahem? Excuse me, I’m Canadian. Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt.

Also a history prof with beard, glasses, and tweed jackets, one with patches in elbows. It used to be ironic. Thank you.

I’m sorry, probably it should be patches ON elbows. But I’m not a hockey fan, and do not say “eh.” Nor do I chop down trees any more.

You want to be really edgy, get some tweed patches and sew them onto a leather jacket.

From my many years of being accepted in Indian-American communities, I can vouch for that. They will not even look at any gold less than 22 carats.

Umm, what to say about me? I’m a Sicilian nonna and I bake my nonna’s old-country pizza recipe. I also share the old-country attitude that a Sicilian should always look her or his best when stepping out of the house, even if only to take out the garbage. (Seriously, after work the other night, I put off changing into more comfortable clothes until I’d taken out the trash, and when I realized the Sicilian ancestral values motivating my decision, I had a good laugh on myself.)

I’m losing weight, so I’m moving out of the overweight middle aged AA chick stereotype.

I’ve lost 50 pounds since I moved back north by quitting most of the stereotypical soul foods. Fried chicken and fish…macaroni and cheese…potato salad…I eat a pre-portioned salad daily for lunch and usually have just yogurt for breakfast and fresh fruit for snacks. I log everything I eat and this works for me. Watermelon is my favorite fruit.

I have dreadlocks, so people assume that I know where to get good weed and that I will smell of shea butter and incense. I stopped puffing when I went to college and realized that I didn’t have to follow the crowd.

I’m a good dancer and I keep the beat.

I speak jive.

Because I’m over 50, many folks are shocked at the new musical artists I love. The last artist for whom I paid an amazing amount of money to see was Ellie Goulding. I had a ball at the show with my 20 something year old coworker.

I love SciFi Fantasy over any other genre and I love Dr. Who. I would rather read than do almost anything else. I’m very outgoing and I’ll have a conversation with any stranger (not an angry Black woman)

I’m in a long distance relationship with a guy from Wales and I speak a few lines in Welsh. People seem shocked that a White guy really likes me and my locs and that I’ve travelled there to see him twice so far.

I don’t go to church and I am a pagan, and many are seriously shocked that I don’t like gospel music. I HATE Madea and those “plays” starring former R&B singers. I always hated Good Times and The Jeffersons. I hate The Browns and whatever else Madea as a man produces and directs.

Thank you, I shall consider this. (Secretly shouting to self, "yes! I’m gonna put it to the man, man! I’m a rebel! I’ve always heard women go for the bad boys, now I’ll find out! Will I need a license for this?)
