Recently browsing around the anti-paedo scene on the 'net (which includes quite a few people devoted to the fight of destroying perverts), I came across an interesting remark on the (in)famous site perverted-justice.com.
For those not in the know, the site traps wanna-be kiddie fiddlers by having their contributors pose as 13-14 year old girls, and they follow some sort of protocol to make sure the advances they receive are genuine, and then post the information and expose the guy. (This is somewhat controversial, so just ignore the methodology for now if it bothers you.)
Anyways, the site’s owner said they were yet to find a female “wannabe”, which is the site’s slang for the predators that initiate contact and pursue a sexual encounter with the decoy. However, I find it baffling that no women are looking for sexual relationships with underage girls.
After all, The Vagina Monologues features a story about just that, an older woman taking advantage of an underage girl, and I got the impression these tales were supposed to be based on actual events. Even aside from that particular work, there is reference throughout fictional works of the older woman who takes advantage of the young boy, under the guise of “teaching him the ropes.” I guess what I’m asking is whether all such notions are completely the stuff of fiction, or whether they have a kernel of truth in them.
If there are such women, why don’t they seem to be getting caught and exposed? Are they just more discreet, better at hiding their crimes? Do they use methods that attract less attention, flying under the radar so to speak? Does anybody here know a female paedo?
One day while at the Texas database of sex offenders to find out how many sex criminals lived in my area. I found at least 1 women out of the 15 or so sex offenders that had gone to jail for sexual assault of a child. So I guess there’s one. I’m sure you coulod find some more its a really big site.
Yes, one lives in the next town up. She’s currently back in prison, IIRC, for contact with a young girl. She’s a lesbian pedophile, with a long history.
Also, remember Mary K. Letourneau? Here’s an interesting commentary on that phenomenon.
I believe, although I can’t find a cite, that some women school teachers have been sexually involved with minor boys. I’ve not heard about any women teachers involved with minor girls but I expect that also happens.
What was the name of that 6th grade teacher in Washington?
Anyway, in re: the OP, I would imagine a female pedo doesn’t need to go online. Whereas men who want to be around children are viewed suspiciously, it’s not hard for a woman to get herself in situations where she will be able to be alone with them. And hell, if she wants little boys, she can pretty much ask for a show of hands and line them up.
surely, though, a seventeen-year-old is hardly a minor. A woman and a 5-year old boy is just as bad as a man and a 5-year-old. The thing is we don’t often compare like to like. For male paedophiles, we automatically think little kids. For women, teenage schoolboys.
At one time in our life, Barb and I had an apartment in a building with a wide range of tenants from various socioeconomic levels. One young couple both worked and had engaged a single girl who lived there and did not work (apparently on some form of social services benefit) as a babysitter. She was, shortly after, arrested for performing oral sex on their 4-year-old boy.
Clarification: I wasn’t calling it “harmless,” and I don’t think most people do. I was simply pointing out that women do in fact have much easier access to children.
The “Women get all the breaks” was sarcasm, as in “Darn, I wish I could pick up sixth-graders.”
Eric,
Whose dating life may yet be reduced to that.
I would guess it’s because most teenage males have no problem with sleeping with an adult female. In fact, most fantasize about it (Here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson).
OTOH, if an adult male sleeps with a teenage female, he is considered to be taking advantage of her. Why this is, I don’t know.
I don’t think the double standard is really there, though. Has she escaped persecution for this?
My problem is simply with power as a component of the onset of sexual activity. This applies to adults as well as children. I think the consent thing is too fuzzy of a line to draw and have it mean anything other than, “We are exactingly arbitrary!”
My 6th grade teacher presumably was a pedo. I say presumably, because a few years ago (20 years after she was my teacher), she was charged with molestation. A large number of complaints then surfaced, at least 30 that I heard of. I don’t know the outcome of the case, and a quick search didn’t turn up anything. All of the alleged victims were female, as is the teacher. Many parents and students (including myself) thought she was a great teacher.
As for sleeping with your kids, if that is all that is happening (i.e. sleeping), there is no problem. Plenty of people do this, either because it is part of their culture, or their theory of raising a child. Search for “family bed” for more details.
According to the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault only 2-4% of sexual offenders with a child victim are women. They also asserted that one-half to two-thirds of all incarcerated female sexual offenders committed their crimes in conjunction with a man.
One number I am curious about: in the national crime statistics reported to Interpol (PDF, 116 kByte) for 2001 by the US women made up 31.6 % of perpetrators of sex offences. For the few other countries whose numbers I have looked at the number is typically much lower.
I assume that this is not just an artefact of victimless, public-order type offences like prostitution where illegal being counted as sex offences - because in that case the total number would be much higher than the 200 k stated. So what does this number represent?
