Are there women firefighters

Well I reckon there must be some, but for the life of me I can recall ever seeing one. I never see any women fireman when you see the news and they show fireman fighting fires etc.

Are they really that rare? Does anyone know any?

Come to think of it all the paramedics I run across are men too.

I realize the strength issue must come into play but there must be some in today’s age.

I remember several years ago, there was a spread in Playboy on women firefighters. I’d set a house on fire to get them to show up.

yes, quite a fair number of the firefighters and paramedics I work with are women. – more so the paramedics than the firefighters, but there are women firefighters just the same

NYFD Firefighter Barbara Poppo died this week. While she wasn’t fighting a fire- she was shovelling snow- she was a Paramedic, but the NY EMS is now a part of the NYFD.

New York Post Obit on her.

Agreed, she wasn’t an active firefighter, she was a Paramedic. Link to Women’s Firefighter’s Organization to find out a lot more details about female firefighters in the United States.

Excuse me, I’m right over here! Volunteer firefighter, nearly 10 years now.
As for seeing us on the news, it’s kinda heard to tell who is male and who is female with all the gear on. I know of quite a few female paramedics.

Ok, you may continue…
