The big meanie has done it several times. I’ll be scarred for life.
Thanks! I’m much better on Monty Python than I am The Aviator (?).
I didn’t get the Aviator reference at all!
It was a 2004 film about Hughes, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
I had to Google it, like most people I forgot it ever existed even though it was nominated for 11 Oscars and won 5.
Seriously guys. Don’t remember The Aviator? It’s the wave of the future!
Mods: as long as you’re reviewing threads before they post, would it be a big imposition to ask one of you to do a quick check on my spelling, grammar, and syntax? Thx.
Also, make my jokes funnier. Maybe turn the wittiness knob up a few notches.
Double-check my links, make sure I read past the headline. That would be cool, kthxbai!
I’m an engineer. Do you really want an engineer to review your posts for spelling and grammar errors?
(for those who aren’t aware, engineers are notorious for bad spelling and grammar)
If you can keep that enormous iron horse rolling down the tracks, then your spelling and grammar is good enough for me.
ETA: I’d now like to suggest this thread be closed, as it’s run off the rails.
Huh, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those flagged threads that wasn’t actually spam.
IIRC a couple have come up in passing here in ATMB; details escape me. But I was aware it could happen and sometimes did; I even have some vague memory of the explanation.
I think that what may have added fuel to the dire so to speak, at least in the Pit thread mentions, was that Annoyed didn’t know his thread had gone live. If this was the first time it happened or the umpteenth I don’t know. But that is where things started to get ----- not nasty by Pit standards but a little on the cringe side for some of us.
While you are worked ten times harder than your pay grade (
) dictates it may not be a bad idea to shoot a PM to the OPs in such cases letting them know that said thread has indeed gone live. It could help in various ways so threads don’t look to be abandoned by their creators.
It’s a rare enough occurrence that whichever moderator approved it probably didn’t even realize that the OP wouldn’t be automatically notified. Now we know, so when it happens again mumblety-many years in the future, a PM probably would be a good idea.
